Simple to Install and easy to use
My cousin who is 82 and very hard of hearing had one of these for many years. When it finally stopped working he asked me to find him another one. He had really come to depend upon the notification light that blinks to tell him he had missed a call and identify incoming callers. I could not find a replacement because today these features are built into the phone and he did not want to upgrade to a more complicated phone. This was the same item he had before so he was able to just open it up, install batteries and plug it in. A very happy customer. Poor contrast, Expensive
I can't see why these fetch a high price on the used market. As others have noted, the display contrast on this early 2000's Caller ID box is poor. The backlight is also dim. You are better off buying a modern phone with a built-in caller display and/or talking caller ID. Display technology has advanced considerably in the last twenty years.

We have Caller ID phone service, but not one phone with Caller ID on it, so I bought a Radio Shack 43-3903 Caller ID Box for myself, and love it. I decided to buy this one for my husband, for Father's Day - and he loves it too!

Although it looked externally identical to box that had failed, it was not powered by a 110 volt A.C. to 6 volds D.C. transformer like my failed one. It had to have batteries installed (which I installed,) and it works fine.

The Radio Shack backlit display caller ID is a nice unit, it could be a little brighter with a better contrast, but it is defiantly better than any other unit like it for brightness and contrast.
