To be honest, I bought this guitar to gig with. Having owned a few JEM's and currently own and play a 30th Anniversary Ibanez JEM 777LG, I got tired of taking my 30th Anniversary to gigs and having it chipped up. It was starting to make me sick to see that beautiful guitar getting banged up. I've always wanted the first 1987 Loch Ness Green model, but missed out on it and settled for the Desert Sun Yellow JEM 777. So, when they reissued that model in 2017, I jumped on it. I used to own a 2010 or 2011 Team J Craft JEM 7VWh. I loved the way it played but had a hard time keeping it in tune. So, I sold it to buy the USA EVH Wolfgang. When Ibanez released the JEM 7VWH in a premium model, I figured that is my solution to replace my 30th Anniversary JEM 777LG for gigging. The Premium JEM 7V 1P-01 is a fantastic JEM model. Ibanez is very consistent in their production guitars and they did not disappoint with this Premium JEM. It's hard to believe the Premium JEM 7V has an Ebony fretboard. Where as the high end JEM 7VWH model's have Rosewood. In my book, Ebony is a big plus! The Premium has the same DiMarzio Evolution pickups, Ibanez Edge tremolo and Alder body as the high end JEM 7VWH. I'm assuming that even if the body is Alder, it's probably not a one piece body. But, I've heard and read that really doesn't make a big difference anyway. The neck profile seems to be a little beefy compared to my 30th Anniversary, but not significantly. The tone is a little darker as well, plus a little heavier than my 30th Anniversary. I'm leaning towards installing a Titanium Sustain Big Block on the tremolo to brighten it up and give it a little more presence. Other than that, it feels good in my fretting hand and is fun to play. If you can't afford or just don't want to lay down serious coin for the 3 Grand JEM 7VWH, I highly recommend this Premium model. One more thing, the guitar was shipped to me and unfortunately with some damage to the body. A pretty big chip by the tone knob, so I think I'm going to relic it as a tribute to Steve Vai's Evo. The most famous of all the Ibanez JEM's.Read full review
