The 8800 / 8801 is the latest jewel in the crown of the world’s largest mobile phone manufacturer – Nokia. The device is high-end not in a sense of functionality, battery life or memory. The 8800 series is a high-end device in a sense of fashion and perfectionism. I love this phone the moment I got it. For a phone that costs close to a grand, the phone itself does live up to its price tag. I find this phone very classy, and i love the stanless steal finish with a scratch resistant reinforced glass screen. The menus are very easy to use and navigate, and the interface is very user friendly. The few bad things about the phone is that the little batteries don't hold much life since they are made around 1/3 of the size of a regular cellphone battery, but hey, you got 2 of them. The technical aspects of the phone is decent, definitely not top of line in terms of functionality. Some points I would've liked this phone to have included was a better camera (0.5 megapixel currently) and a memory slot. If you are a sucker for fashion this is the phone for you, if you are more into functionality, I would recommend the Sony Ericsson W800i. Many people argue and ask me why I purchased this phone for such a high price. I simply see it this way, this phone is like an LV bag, maybe it is very simple , and it doesn't have many pockets, secret components, or locks like a GAP bag, but it is definitely THE best phone in terms of quality of craftsmanship Now some specs General Network 8800 GSM 900 / GSM 1800 / GSM 1900 General Network 8801 GSM 850 / GSM 1800 / GSM 1900 (North American Version) Size Dimensions 107 x 45 x 15 mm, 67 cc Weight 134 g Display Type TFT, 256K colors Size 208 x 208 pixels - Scratch-resistant glass - Downloadable wallpapers, screensavers Ringtones Type Polyphonic (64 channels), MP3, AAC Customization Composer, download, order now Vibration Yes Memory Phonebook 1000 entries, Photo call Call records 20 dialed, 20 received, 20 missed calls Card slot No - 64 MB internal memory Data GPRS Class 8 (4+1 slots), 32 - 40 kbps HSCSD No EDGE Class 10, 236.8 kbps 3G No WLAN No Bluetooth Yes Infrared port No USB Yes, Pop-Port Features Messaging SMS, EMS, MMS, EMail, Instant Messaging Browser WAP 2.0/xHTML Games 3 + Java downloadable Colors Silver, Black Edition (for the Russian market) Camera SVGA, 800x600 pixels, video (QCIF) - Java MIDP 2.0 - Durable stainless steel covers - FM radio - MP3/AAC player - T9 - Built-in handsfree - Calendar - Calculator - Voice dial Battery Standard battery, Li-Ion 600 mAh (BL-5X) Stand-by Up to 190 h Talk time Up to 3 hRead full review
I have had this phone for about three months now, and I really like it. The quality is the best of any cell phone available. It is all stainless steel, and it even has ball bearings for the slide mechanism! The display is great, and the display cover is actual glass (like a watch crystal) not plastic like most phones! Signal is great, and battery life is decent but not great,(2 days tops) but the charging base is so cool you will want to charge it every night anyway! It also comes with a spare battery that stays in the charging base, but I have not had to use it yet. This phone is in no way "Feature Packed" but if you want quality over gimmics, this is the only phone to get! The only faults I could find are that like most Nokias the volume could be a little higher, and since I keep it in my pocket, the ear piece gets lint in it and I have to blow it out or the sound gets distorted. Once I blow it out the sound is perfect, but if you keep it in a holster or purse this won't be a problem. I would not recommend keeping it in a purse though as the stainless steel might get scratched. In my pocket the stainless steel has held up very well, but I am careful not to put anything else in the same pocket with it. Maybe the best feature of this phone is that there are only two buttons on it when closed and only one of them will answer a call, so you don't have to worry about the phone answering on accident and callers listening to the sound of your pocket rustling around while they are saying "Hello, Hello..." (I know we have all been there!) I only ranked it good not excellent because of the quiet volume, and the fact that it is a little awkward to hold without covering the antenna, otherwise this is an excellent phone!Read full review
I purchased an unlocked Nokia 8801 a few weeks ago and have come to a love-hate relationship with it. I love the feel and looks of the phone and many of its features and it is an attention grabber. But, the static display is almost impossible to see and the size of the alphanumerics of the main screen were NOT designed for the over 50 crowd as they are so small as to be illedgible. The bluetooth works great and reception is very good in the foothills of SoCal. Unfortunately the manual lacks instructions on many basic features; eg it never tells you how to raise the volume of the handset. The technical support, on the other hand, is excellent (once you get thru) and takes the time to get whatever answers you need and doesn't appear to rush you. To me the single REAL negative is the combination of the extremely small navigational keys and the LACK of the ability to "back up" when you accidently press 2 (or any other mis-stroke) instead of the down navigational key. At this point, and several others, you must start completely over. Also cumbersome is the number of keystrokes it takes to perform otherwise common activities such as sending a text message (& I still can't force the T9 to spell MY word). All in all I really do like the phone; I just have had to learn to live with its particular characteristics. Do I tell my friends about it? Hell yes. It really is a great phone but it is quirky like all of us. Compared to my last V600 Motorola, this phone is provides more features, better reception, AND can be seen in the daylight. I give it a 4.5Read full review
Bought this phone soon after it came out. First of all if your a person who wants a phone with lots of memory and a good camera then this is nto for you. This phone comes with a 64mb internal memory with no slot for upgrades. Camera is only 0.5 pixels and the battery is also not that great thus them including 2 in the box. However I want a cell phone for making calls not taking pictures or listening to songs so it did not bother me. This phone is sleeck in design, and i love the weight of the phone. Makes it feel sturdy. Ive dropped it unfortunately a bunch of times now onto concrete and scratches are almost invisible and the phone is still in great condition. If the battery life was alot better this would be perfect but im still a happy man.
I love my phone! Sure it has some problems like it didn't come with a cable to hook up tp the computer, if you use cingular, you have to re-program the phome in order to use all of the functions including sending text messeges. the battery is small so if you're a talker, it won't last very long. It doesn't take very clear pictures in low light and you can't program how long you want the screen light to stay on so it always goes out when you're trying to see something. But, it's very sleek, classy, and durable. I dropper mine twice and not a scratch on it. And the phone doesn't freeze on me like all my othe phones used to. The problems are small and most are fixable. I hate phones that freeze on me and that have bad reception. This Phone is so sweet! I get fantastic reception compared to my other Nokia.Read full review
