About this product

Product Information

Unlike the 1980 coin-op classic, which features a nuclear attack from Soviet ICBMs, Missile Command for the Atari VCS takes place in outer space, where Krytolians are out to destroy and seize planet Zardon. Bombers are nowhere in sight, and there is one missile base instead of three. Despite the watered down storyline and a couple of missing elements, basic gameplay remains much the same. Graphics and sounds are simplified, but not overly so. In fact, when a city explodes, it erupts into a mushroom cloud. In the arcade game, the explosion is circular. The home game includes 34 variations, which effect speed of target control, wave number and intelligence of cruise missiles. There is even a special children's mode of play. Disappointingly, when the game is over, "THE END" does not appear as it does in the original.

  • Video gaming history

I spend many hours playing this on the Atari 2600 when I was a 10 year old. If you still appreciate the nostalgia of retro gaming, you can’t go wrong with this title. It was a ubiquitous hit for the 2600. It was probably only second in popularity to Space Invaders. What a great piece of video gaming history.

  • Great game, but not really my type of game.

To be honest I do not really enjoy Missile Command so much. However it still goes down as one of the best games made for the Atari 2600, and so it has too be a really good game just that it doesn't fit in my interest range.

  • Missile Command (Atari 2600)

I have had my atari system for about 23 years and it still works great. I dont get to play as often as I use to but its still fun. I like to get games when I can and its a bonus when an old game comes with the instruction book. Its not too hard to figure out most games but a book always helps.

  • lots of fun
