About this product

Product Information

True story from the major motion picture "In Darkness," official 2012 Academy Award nominee for Best Foreign Language Film. In 1943, with Lvov's 150,000 Jews having been exiled, killed, or forced into ghettos and facing extermination, a group of Polish Jews daringly sought refuge in the city's sewer system. The last surviving member this group, Krystyna Chiger, shares one of the most intimate, harrowing and ultimately triumphant tales of survival to emerge from the Holocaust. Originally published as The Girl in the Green Sweater, In Darkness is Chiger's harrowing first-person account of the fourteen months she spent with her family in the fetid, underground sewers of Lvov. In Darkness is also the story of Leopold Socha, the group's unlikely savior. A Polish Catholic and former thief, Socha risked his life to help Chiger's underground family survive, bringing them food, medicine, and supplies. A moving memoir of a desperate escape and life under unimaginable circumstances, In Darkness is ultimately a tale of intimate survival, friendship, and redemption.

"Despite the substantial number of Holocaust memoirs that have been published, The Girl in the Green Sweater manages to touch us in an unexpected way, revealing highs and lows in man's capacity for evil, as well his capacity to love life and other human beings.  Through the eyes of the child that Krystyna Chiger was in Lvov, Poland in 1939   we see the whole moral universe." -- Naomi Ragen, author of The Saturday Wife and The Covenant   "[A] gripping memoir. . . Krystyna Chiger's memoir about her harrowing childhood in Lvov, Poland, during the Holocaust is a straightforward account of her family's witness to the incrediblesadism, suffering and cruelty heaped upon the Jews of Lvov under the Russians and then Hitler. Throughout Chiger's story, time and again, we are vividly reminded that we humans -- even as very young and frightened children -- are capable of enduring, and surviving, much, much more than we know. -- Karen Tintori, author of Unto the Daughters: The Legacy of an Honor Killing in a Sicilian-American Family and Trapped: The 1909 Cherry Mine Disaster "This often unimaginable survival story should not be missed." --Port Washington News, Despite the substantial number of Holocaust memoirs that have been published, The Girl in the Green Sweater manages to touch us in an unexpected way, revealing highs and lows in man's capacity for evil, as well his capacity to love life and other human beings. This is an outstanding seller to deal with. Fair prices that are more than reasonable in this economy. The product is in better condition than described, a true value for my money. Packaged and shipped well shows seller has concern for the products he sells to arrive in excellent condition. The seller is friendly and communicates timely with his customers. I highly recommend this seller and would do business again anytime. Thank you.

Item is complete and 100% as described. Shipping was reasonable and item packaged well and arrived 100% intact though-out the shipping process. I would purchase from this seller again! Note: My 3 star rating for seller communications is due to the fact the seller and I did not communicate outside the simple transaction. I am sure that the seller would communicate well if the need existed. The "3 Star" rating on communication in no way applies to the seller. It represents a "Null" value.

Good Ole Decluttr Store. I've been buying from them for many years. They have 100% feedback with me (lesser feedback on eBay probably due to whiny complainers under age 40 - getalife.com). Items always well priced, exactly as described, well packed, shipped promptly with FREE Shipping. Never once have I given <100% grade. Will continue to fill my music library with Decluttr Stores help! A+, Excellent eBay store!
