Post-Atlantic McPhatter Hits
The quality of the sound of these recordings, as well as the quality of the sound of the voice of McPhatter, are top-notch, apparently taken directly from the master tapes. These songs cover his years after his years with Billy Ward & His Dominoes and The Drifters, as well as his solo hits Atlantic Records, when he moved first to MGM (1959-1960), then to Mercury (1960-1965). His big hit, "Lover Please" is the standout here, as well as other minor hits. The style of the music by this time had gone from R&B to a more pop sound, similiar to the Brook Benton style. It also includes some re-recordings of past Atlantic hits, which show his voice was as clear and crisp as ever, even though the style of the background music was dramatically different than the R&B classic versions. Clyde McPhatter CD purchase
Plays well enough except for one song where it skips along. I got the most important songs of interest, so it was acceptable. However, being able to play that last one would have been nice, too.
