Twelve years in the making, the publication of "Rhett Butler's People"marks a major and historic cultural event. Through the storytelling mastery of award-winning writer Donald McCaig, the life and times of the dashing Rhett Butler unfolds. Through Rhett's eyes we meet the people who shaped his larger than life personality as it sprang from Margaret Mitchell's unforgettable pages: Langston Butler, Rhett's unyielding father; Rosemary his steadfast sister; Tunis Bonneau, Rhett's best friend and a onetime slave; Belle Watling, the woman for whom Rhett cared long before he met Scarlett O'Hara at Twelve Oaks Plantation, on the fateful eve of the Civil War. Of course there is Scarlett. Katie Scarlett O'Hara, the headstrong, passionate woman whose life is inextricably entwined with Rhett's: more like him than she cares to admit; more in love with him than she'll ever know Brought to vivid and authentic life by the hand of a master, "Rhett Butler's People" fulfills the dreams of those whose imaginations have been indelibly marked by "Gone With The Wind." Must-read experience for fans of Gone with the Wind.

I kept wondering whether the author had the benefit of a trove of Margaret Mitchell's personal notes. I found the plot and characterizations to be totally credible. At last we learn how Rhett Butler became the man he was, and wonder that he had any human emotions left after what he survived. At long last, a satisfying conclusion to the classic tale. At least twice I had chills at the end of a chapter, and couldn't wait to get back to the book. I will read GWTW again with new insight. I also recommend the author's other authorized book, Ruth's Journey, the story of Mammy's long and tragic history.

  • Rhett's Side of the Story

I always wondered where Rhett went off to when he would go abroad in Gone With The wind? This book tells about his life, his people, and his side of the story. It's a great "man's" book with alot of history. But, as a lady, I enjoyed it as well.

  • The Rest of the Story!

This book is the story of Rhett Butler's childhood and family, giving broad insight into how he became the adult rambler and gambler portrayed in Gone With the Wind.

  • Beautifully written background for the rascal Rhett Butler of Gone with the Wind.

Wonderful book filling in the background for Rhett's reputation and his relationship to Belle Watling.

  • Great prequel!

Recommend for all Gone With The Wind fans! The book flowed nicely along with the original book. More detail originated. Couldn't put it down.
