2 1/2 stars Not the best from Duke although there are bright moments from Jimmy Hamilton on clarinet. But Johnny Hodges alto sound comes through a little on the thin side. The concert begins with a unusual version of Take The A Train followed by a far from definitive version of Paris Blues. There follows a string of mostly well known Ellington tunes which have been better recorded Live at other concerts. Toward the end there are 2 vocal selections by Ray Nance and Duke's monologue on Pretty and The Wolf, followed by Paul Gonsalves' patented blues solo, 9 min. this time, on Diminuendo and Crescendo in Blue. Not a real good concert en todo and certainly not one to be selling inexpensively to people who are not aware of the fact that Duke Ellington can, and has recorded better.
