About this product

Product Information

When you want a CPU that can keep up with nearly any task that you throw at it, you need an Intel Core i7-960 3.2 GHz Quad-Core Bx80601960 desktop processor. With 45nm technology on each core, the i7-960 remains cool even with many applications open. With its integrated DDR3 memory controller, this CPU offers higher speeds at lower latency. Featuring a high benchmark compared to other CPU benchmarks, this is a must-have processor when it comes to running games.Being a quad core unit means that it can handle multiple tasks without you noticing any slowdown. One core can focus on running the 64-bit operating system while the others are free to run other applications. This means one core could be running a DVD while another unit is downloading a large file from the internet. With a speed of 3.2GHz per core, your computer will be running smoothly thanks to this quality AMD device. This unit allows for three channels of DDR3 1066 MHz RAM, resulting in a fast memory controller with a bandwidth that caps out at 25.6GB per second. Plus, this hardware helps lower latency on the computer. Having a high memory bandwidth in the world of processors means that you will notice quick performance even while running intense computer applications. This Intel Core processor also features Intel Advanced Smart Cache Technology. This software allows for dynamic sharing of the L3 cache. The amount of cache allocated to each processor depends greatly on the workload that the processor is undergoing at the time. In total, each core gets to share 8MG of L3.Of course, the L3 isn't the only thing that Intel boosted in this unit. The CPU also features Intel Turbo Boost. The goal of this software is to speed up the performance of the cores. This works much in the same way as overclocking but is a much safer. process. It means that you have the power to get things done when you need to without having to worry about your CPU.This Intel Core unit features Intel Wide Dynamic Execution as well. This means that it can run four full instructions at the same time. Pair this with its 3.2GHz speed, and it's easy to see why this unit delivers more power than average CPUs. In fact, this unit has a max speed of 3.4GHz in turbo mode. It should also be noted that Intel has designed this unit with hyper-threading capabilities. With hyper-threading, the unit can execute parallel threads. This typically helps improve the responsiveness of your system overall. You should have no problem multitasking with this unit in your desktop PC.With these specifications, it's hard to find another unit that performs at this level and will bring you this much enjoyment. Featuring support for an FCLGA1366 socket, it's already compatible with many motherboards. Quality CPUs can be hard to find, so whether you're into online gaming or need a business computer that you can count on, the Intel Core i7-960 can help.

Great price for a great product.

Great purchase. I converted an older VM lab machine into a casual gaming machine, and this CPU was about three speed tiers faster than what it replaced. It is working flawlessly.

  • Fast 4-Core, 8-Thread, 3-/6-RAM bank LGA 1366 Processor

I have used Core i7-930s in the past, and this is a faster version in the same family. These are VERY power hungry, at 130 watts. I have also used low power Xeon versions of this same chip, in those motherboards which can accept Xeons. I am currently building two X58 systems using the chips mentioned (non-Xeons), but these will be my last LGA 1366s. Future builds will be LGA 1151s.

  • This is Intel Core i7 960:

I really get a better value for this chip here than anywhere else. The speed tests show that the performance of the 960, especially when paired with good memory and an extremely fast hard drive, far outperforms the 920 so that the money difference can be justified. I know a lot of enthusiast are set on buying the 920 and then just overclocking it, but the 960 can be overclocked easily to 4.1 Ghz and can get to speeds the 920 only dreams of having (I am not complaining about the 920, but I just don't care for the overclocking argument Never had I seen instant loading like this system does. I am absolutely blown away. I am sure Windows is creating a new operating system to slow things down, but until that happens, I am a happy camper. A very good affordable CPU indeed. Most people are stuck ...
