I purchased this CD for my soon to be three year old daughter. I realized I had introduced her to the Disney Pocahontas movie way too early, but alas, it was too late. She fell in love with the Pocahontas character and the animals in the film and now is having a Pocahontas themed third B-day party, which is why I purchased the CD. Unfortunately, I heard the CD for the first time with her in the car (I was in a hurry to listen to, to leave feedback for the Seller). Hearing the music on CD vs. while watching the film we both realized that it is way too long, something like 26 tracks. Anyhow, hearing them on CD also made me realize of how harsh some of the lyrics are for any small aged child (there is nothing to distract from the clearly sung lyrics in the car). Already I have to explain each time we hear the lyrics from her favorite track Savages that the words being used are "mean", etc. The CD does have some great tracks; Just Around the Riverbend, Colors of the Wind and the tracks from Grndmother Willow and Chief Powatan - these don't need clearing up and are just beautiful to listen to for both of us. So, I found that my daughter is a bit too young for this CD. There is a Disney Princess' CD that includes Just Around the Riverbend and Colors of the Wind along with other Disney songs and I should have just stuck to letting her hear that one for a while longer - I already had it.Read full review
Out of all the animated feature film scores heralding from the Disney Renaissance, Pocahontas is, simply, one of the best from that period. Like The Huncback of Notre Dame, Beauty and the Beast, and Aladdin, Pocahontas' film score is a perfect blend of lyrical songs and orchestrated compositions that compliment the beauty, wonder, and majesty of the film. From the Academy Award winning 'Colours of the Wind' to the poignantly orchestrated 'Farewell,' the music takes us through the film until its inevitable conclusion. Menken's compositions are both heartbreaking and beautiful by turns, just as Schwartz's lyrics are unforgettable. The overall score is quite impressive, and is one I've loved since the film came out in theatres, although I am a little disappointed that the song 'If I Never Knew You,' sung by Mel Gibson and Judy Kuhn in the uncut version of the film, wasn't featured on the CD. Nevertheless, I highly recommend this CD to fans of the film, or someone who simply loves a beautiful film score. It's well worth having in a collection!Read full review
Alan Meken really does know how to set moods in the animated films that he does. And Pocahontas is one of them. The soundtrack is amazing and plays out each of the well known scenes very well. And the songs are really beautiful. Listen with your Heart has given me goosebumps everytime I listened to it. And Savages is a great song as well to give goosebumps.
plays wonderful
