I use this mic on my kenwood TS-850s and reports from other hams are excellent. It has great audio range 60 - 15,000 Hz and clarity just by feeding it into the factory mic plug on the radio with an adapter. No Phantom power is needed for this microphone, and because of its unidirectional Cardioid audio pickup it doesn't hear noise from things in the room, like TV or radio / scanner playing at a medium low volume easily . The mic’s proximity effect provides added warmth when used close up. I can't wait to see how it sounds through a DSP-100 and some audio rack equipment on essb.I use this mic on my kenwood TS-850s and reports from other hams are excellent. A hidden Jewel
This Mic beats the old standard SM-58 hands-down. Much Smoother mids, more extended bass without being bloated, so it's a far better mic for male voices but still shines for smooth female vocals even belted out hard and tough enough to bang around for stage use, XLR and cable is what you'd expect in the low price range but the Mic is far, far better. A hidden jewel is this Mic, grab 'em while you can. Also one of the best Ham Radio Mics for the price around. And just to add, if you are recording, it is a fairly easy mic to EQ, no radical surprises. Easy proximity effect without being overbearing and for what it's worth, the cheaper ATR-20, which I don't like, has a pop filter built into the screen, swap 'em out and sell the '20 to someone who has lesser needs. Great Audio on the cheap!
The ATR-30 works very well in Amateur Radio applications. The audio is "full range" and easy to tailor to your needs by the onboard equalizer that most modern transceivers have built-in.

I've worked at a music store before in the electronic repair department, and would almost never see an Audio Technica product come in for repair, as much as I would see Shure products rolling in. This ATR-30 is built very solid, durable, and offers more flexability than any mic I've used. I would say that the ATR-30 should be the industry standard rather than the SM58....Audio-Technica...WAY TO GO!!!I've worked at a music store before in the electronic repair department, and would almost never see an Audio Technica product come in for repair, as much as I would see Shure products rolling in.
