good machete

(sadly, it also seems to be thinner than this machete). it will be interesting to compare the two.

Hurts my hand to use
Too unbalanced for my liking and the handle is too small. I plan to cut off the handle at the guard and fit it with a larger diameter handle, shortening the overall length considerably. In that config it will more closely match a traditional Kukri. The blade is robust and should work.

Magnum Size for Magnum Chores !
This classic "Magnum Kukri" has the traditional Cold Steel Design for Superior Brush cutting over simple "straight machetes." This may be available from some sellers at a "reduced cost" because it is a "classic" that has been in the market for a while. The steel used will take a "razor edge" when sharpened as an ordinary knife or taken to the razor strop. I prefer the Royal Kukri's extreme "blade angle," but, this is far longer than the "Royal" providing added leverage that comes with length. Should you buy the "Cold Steel" Magnum Kukri Machete?
When considering a machete, I created a mental list of what I was looking for and went from there. The list looked something like this: longer blade, quality blade material (carbon content and heat treated), durable and tightly fitted handle, balanced, and practical (no pretty). The Magnum is made of 1055 carbon steel that was heat treated (meaning the carbon content & treatment allow for a sharp edge and also great flexibility of the blade), this was hard to beat. The handle is durable and tight with no give. The blade shape and weight makes for a very balanced feel. And the price is unbeatable at around $30! I received this machete quickly, and it was well packaged. After the un-boxing, I found that the the edge is not sharpened and still has the rust resistant black coating on ... Had this been priced significantly higher, I would have knocked down the rating. You simply can't beat the value of this blade!

Let me explain: Pro's: 1055 carbon steel - this is a good mid-carbon steel to make a machete out of. handle is superbly attached or fixated to the steel. Great grip Feels good in the hand Made in South Africa. South Africans make great quality products, especially when it comes to blades. Price: The machete I purchased was $15. Cant beat the price Con's: Came completely dull granted a machete does not necessarily require much of an edge but completely flat is another thing all together. Instant weapon and workable machete and took about 5 min on a grinder to accomplish. Well worth the money if you have a grinder to fix the lack of an edge issue.
