If you are looking to build, or just buy a first or new antenna for your Ham rig, this series of books from the American Radio Relay League is literally packed with information about antenna design, building, testing and use. The choice and rigging of the antenna and feedline are at least as important as the transciever itself for an efficient communications system. As far as "bang for your buck" goes, the improvements in an antenna/feedline system are the most cost effective way to increase your range and clarity in radio communications. You can spend a lot of money on an expensive linear amplifier to boost your signal power, but if your antenna and feedline are not optimized for the signal sent to them, you are just turning money into heat energy and losing much or most of your signal to losses in an inadequate signal transmission system. The information in this series of books will educate you in how to mitigate those signal losses and allow you to greatly improve your ability to get your signal "out there". I highly recommend this series of books.Read full review
