About this product

Product Information

The Tokina AT-X PRO 16-28mm f/2.8 wide-angle lens is designed to deliver remarkable image quality and exceptional optical performance. Fit for photographers of all kinds, this autofocus and manual-focus zoom lens is lightweight and compact. Magnification of an object to a particular reproduction ratio is easy with this lens that produces high-quality, detailed images. Providing stunningly exposed photographs, it minimizes distortion and chromatic aberration. Dare to be creative during low-lit evening events by taking photos with the aid of the f/2.8 maximum aperture. Switch easily to photographing in bright conditions with the f/22 minimum aperture. This lens works on a Nikon digital single-lens reflex, or DSLR, full-frame camera with a 24-by-36mm image sensor. With a different mount, the Tokina lens model attaches to Canon cameras with those specifications. The mount needed to use the lens on such a Canon, however, differs from the Nikon mount. Cameras suited for an AT-X PRO 16-28mm f/2.8 include the Nikon D700, Nikon D3x, and Canon EOS 5D Mark II. With this versatile Tokina zoom lens, take close-ups of small objects and shots of wide scenes. Rotating the lens' zoom ring puts objects into the closer or farther view you desire. This zoom can focus on an object that is 9 feet or farther from it. Its maximum macro ratio, or magnification rate, is 1 to 5.26. These performance specs apply to the Tokina 16-28mm lens on a Nikon camera. The 16-28mm focal length offers an angle of view ranging from 76.87 degrees at 28mm to 107.11 degrees at 16mm. When at its 16mm setting, the device provides its widest view of scenes. The narrower view at the 28mm setting is still wide angle. The angle of view gradually lessens with each focal length above 16mm. The Tokina 16-28mm lens has a depth of field of f/2.8, ideal for low-light conditions. Lenses with a higher depth of field, such as f/4, are less useful in low light. This product is among lenses in the Tokina AT-X PRO FX Series line. Featuring a motor that makes no noise and focuses automatically and quickly, this zoom also allows manual focus. The Tokina one-touch focus clutch mechanism makes it easy to change focusing options. Simply move the focus ring, and the lens is set for autofocus when the ring is in the forward position. When the ring is in the back position, you can focus manually. This Tokina product produces high-resolution pictures with distortion correction. They mirror photo subjects' colors and light levels. Composed of 13 groups fitted with 15 elements, the lens' optical design includes three aspherical glass elements. Three other elements are made of super-low dispersion glass. The front aspherical glass element's diameter is 56mm. Nine blades control the amount of light entering the camera. The Tokina AT-X PRO 16-28mm f/2.8 is 5.2 inches long, 3.5 inches wide, and weighs 2.1 pounds. Preventing unwanted light's glare spots and ghost images in pictures is easier with the included lens hood. Helping you take flawless photos, it filters stray light and it protects the lens.

Decent but don’t expect edge to edge sharpness

Even at F4 or f8 it produces soft edges. Center is sharp though at all f:stops. Surprisingly very little vignetting wide open. And zero choked down to f8. Solid build for the price and smooth manual focusing. Easy to use manual focus switching allows you to keep your eye in the viewfinder while switching from AF to manual. I wouldn’t use this for astrophotography though as the stars on the edges will be noticeably soft. But for the price it’s a great lens

  • Not the best, but good enough for professional photos.

I love this lens. I didn't use wide lenses enough in my work to justify getting the best glass, so I settled on the Tokina. Glad I did, because I am using it more than I originally thought. Great value. Not as sharp as I would like, but it is good enough for what I need. Enjoy. - Stephen Paul Photography

Read all reviews on this. This is an amazing lens with incredible sharpness. Perfect in all aspects. One exception. wish that this would take a filter.

  • Great value and excelente picture quality!

My copy is tack sharp wide open.It is built like a tank. The only downside is the weight. I have to pay more visits to the gym now.

  • Great lens all around well worth its price, might be a classic one day

This is a great lens,i am a full time professional shooter and normally dont buy off brand lenses but i took a chance on this lens since i figure i dont use that range enough to justify buying the $2000 nikon version ,but after using the lens wow. this lens is as sharpe as a ny of my nikon lenses and the focus is really good and i have used most of nikon pro 2.8 lenses this lens is a winner im glad i bought it i cant see why any one wouldnt be happy with this lens unless you get a bad copy guess..great lens all around
