Not Really For Dummies
A very nice collection of basic information. Will it alone teach you to play guitar? Probably not, but it will serve as a nice source of basic information. If you know nothing about Guitar and really want to learn to Play you should seek out a qualified Teacher who can point out flaws in your technique right on the spot. Furthermore a teacher can actually tell you what's going wrong and create exercises etc. on the fly to drill the problem. Not to mention re-phrase what they are expressing to you from a different direction if you appear lost or confused. So in short, "A DVD IS NOT HOW YOU LEARN TO PLAY GUITAR If You Are a Complete Beginner". It can make a nice tool along with private one on one study or be of use to one who has a basic grasp on right from wrong. A Lot of Books/DVDs on ... A very nice collection of basic information. The only goal being: to take your money. I'm not knocking books or DVDS. I myself am a Guitar Teacher who has written several Guitar Books. Books/DVDS can be a Great Sources of Info. Books can make Excellent Teaching and Practicing Tools. A Good Book/DVD can be a great asset, but it still Really Helps to Have a Teacher working right along with you. If you think your going pick this DVD up from the shelf and learn to play overnight, you're wrong. Having said that, I was quite impressed when I saw the book and found it a nice study tool, full of valuable information. But most information will likely require a Teacher to take the topics into the depth needed to be fully explored. I would personally recommend The DVD/BOOK combination if your insistent on having the DVD otherwise I Feel the Book itself would do you just fine. Several of my students own this book and it makes a nice reference guide for them. The book can be a little high price wise, but if the price tage don't bother you it's a nice addition to your guitar studies. The basic DVD without the book is IMO a little lacking. In scanning some previous reviews I noted reference to the DVD moving to fast. This really isn't the case at all. I do belive the DVD swam over some user heads. This is not so much the fault of the DVD as user misperception. A DVD is what it is. What it is not is a real live teacher. Whether or not something moves to fast or flys over ones head is relevant to what one knows. If you really don't know enough to actually use the DVD, the DVD will not help you. If you feel it moves to fast ot completly confuses you: You need Real Live Help. After acquiring some basic one on one help the DVD will begin to make more sense to you. Overall not a bad collection of Basic Info, but not for the clueless, and as I previously stated I'd highly suggest the BOOK/DVD combo as opposed to the basic DVD.

Wanted to learn to play the guitar without taking lessons. It is not the one to buy if you don't know a little about music. it needs to define the terms used. If you are a first time guitar user and no nothing about music, you will have no idea what they are refering to when they talk about chords, scales, frets, etc. They need one called guitars for the dummest! The DVD was okay, you finally catch on but the book that came with it was useless. They need on that is more detail oriented and first thing in it should be the definitions of the frets.Wanted to learn to play the guitar without taking lessons.
