About this product

Product Information

BattleForge combines the collection and deck building of a trading card game with the action and immediacy of a real-time strategy game. Battles are fought across 3D landscapes, viewed from a medium-zoom isometric perspective by default. The graphical style is simple, colorful, and expressive, with a variety of landscape types and plenty of distinct special effects for the spells and powers in each of four magic types. There is no base-building or unit development in the game. The only resources required to control units and spells in battle are energy generators and orb-producing monuments. With enough energy and the right type of orbs in their control, players can instantly summon units, build defensive towers, or cast powerful spells.

The particular units, towers, and spells available to the player are represented by virtual trading cards. Each player brings a 20-card deck into battle. Weaker units have low energy costs and only require a single orb in the player's control, and more powerful units become available when the player has collected more energy and captured additional monuments to control multiple orbs. The four types of magic in the game are fire, frost, nature, and shadow, each with distinct strengths and weaknesses. Fire forces tend to do heavy damage but have light defenses, for example, while frost forces are especially tough but damage their opponents more slowly.

Along with a full-color illustration, each virtual card lists the statistics for the unit, tower, or spell it summons, including damage, hit points, and the energy and orb requirements. Although they can only bring a single deck into battle, players are free to organize and as many decks as they like from their collection.
BattleForge requires an Internet connection, and can be played against other connected human opponents or in an online campaign of solo missions that gradually reveal the game's backstory and plot. Online players can also team up and trade cards with one another. The retail game ships with 16 virtual cards plus enough points to obtain 96 more. No subscription fees are required to play, but additional cards are available for purchase.

Once units are put into play they behave in pretty much the same way as units do in any other real-time strategy game. You give them move and attack orders with the mouse, and choose when to use a unit's special power. Tactical considerations have to be kept in mind, such as keeping ranged units out of melee and having anti-air units available to provide cover from flying units for other units. Collectible card game players new to real-time strategy games may have a little trouble adjusting at first – in card games the interaction between different cards are defined and predictable but that's not the case here. In fact, BattleForge feels more like an introduction to collectible card games for strategy gamers than the reverse. BattleForge comes with a campaign game, but it feels less like ...

  • Battleforge is a decent cross btwn MTG and AOE games.

This an easy to learn game. It is all online. The retail version gives you several decks/cards to play with and 3000 battleforge points to bid on more in the AH. Resemebles Magic the Gathering or Yu Gi Oh in that cards are used to summon creatures. Then the game becomes more like an Age of Empires battle. The single player campaign is decent, but gets repetitive if you really want to build your decks power. The multiplayer is fun, but if paly against others, be prepared. Most others have very powerful decks that totally outclass the registered decks. Was fun, entertaining, and cheap to get 3 accounts for my family. Played many multiplayer co-op games with my kids.

  • Battleforge From Electronic Art$$$$...

I bought battleforge today and i can tell i am really impressed of the gameplay! It have great effects, graphics and storyline. Ok thanks ea games for giving us this great game (one of my favorites!) but have you thinked why you are not going to take 10/10 not even 9/10 or 8/10? Yes you guessed right :-)....Here is the bill your wallet is gonna pay for it! 50 euro to buy it or 30 us dollars thanks to ebay(only cd key) ok i know what you are thinking, good games worth the money and we support game developers etc etc etc .. but enough is enough! You buy points and with points you buy cards. That means: Unbalanced PvP More and more and more cash everytime they add new cards Take a taste of the prices: * Purchase 500 BattleForge Points EUR 4.99 * Purchase 1000 BattleForge Points EUR 9.99 * ...
