This thing is small! Slips right into your pocket, so great for hiking and camping, and just plain carrying anywhere. The RX100 has a nice sturdy feel, inspiring confidence that it can take an occasional bump. There are several automatic and semi-automatic settings, so you can use it right away without learning every feature. And there are many features, as well as a fully manual mode, so you can shoot under virtually any conditions. It also has a built in flash. The image quality is very good, and it can be set to shoot JPEG, RAW, or both simultaneously. It's a lot of fun.

It is a decent camera. The one inch sensor records decent videos in low light.

The Sony DSC-RX100 is far and away the very best advanced fixed-lens compact digital camera I have ever owned. Has a very solid build quality and has an abundance of features for just about any subject you may want to photograph. Of particular note for me are the outstanding Carl Zeiss lens, the fastest auto focus of any point & shoot I have ever used, the clear image zoom that doubles the zoom to 200mm (35mm equivalent), the in-camera panorama mode and amazing images thanks to the large 1" sensor! The cons that other reviewers have alluded to i.e. no hot shoe, poor flash, filter issues, etc are immaterial to me. If I want hose features I'll use my Nikon DSLR and as far as flash goes, I haven't used it yet because the low-light capability of this camera is outstanding. Love this camera. Will be carrying it with me all the time!Read full review

This camera has a large sensor and very good lense, features which are much, much more important to image quality than the number of megapixels. (It has lots of megapixels too.) It is smaller and lighter than its competitors from Canon and Nikon. These are the reasons I bought it. This camera does take excellent pictures and is wonderful for low light situations in which I do not want to use the flash. The detail on close-ups is outstanding. There are a few things that I wish were different. The popup flash is on the upper left corner, in a position where I am used to holding the camera. It comes with many features I do not need, such as a mode that takes photos in surrealistic colors and one that that is meant for photos of food.

I've owned the camera for only a few weeks and haven't yet taken the time to sit down and become familiar with its full capabilities, but I've used it in a number of settings have have so far been satisfied with the entry stage performance. The camera body it small and sturdy which makes it easy to transport, and comfortable for casual shooting. Sony also has a stylish and functional leather snap-on jacket case option which has a shoulder strap to increase the safety and ease of transportation. As for use, I find the power button a little small and oddly located, but the shutter button/zoom rocker, mode dial, and option/setting wheel/buttons on the back are accessible and intuitive. There are a large number shooting modes, and an even larger set of setting optons. It's here that I find the number of options boarding on the edge of diminishing returns. There is so much content that the menu becomes a bit lengthy to navigate, and ensuring repeatable usage requires a bit of a time investment. I got burned on a large number of pictures before I discovered that I had toggled the focus into manual mode by inadvertently pressing the center menu button during shooting. I guess that's the cost of being a beginner user with advanced configuration. That said, I had some gem photos that were extremely easily shot. I haven't analyzed the quality on a microscopic scale, but from a point, shoot, and review on a 15" display I was very happy with the visual quality.Read full review
