The PV-9400 from Panasonic has four heads for better special effects playback quality. Despite its Shaker-like simplicity, the PV-9400 has a few noteworthy convenience features. A program index search creates on on-screen listing of the recordings on a particular tape. Select the desired program and the VCR automatically cues up the tape to start of that segment. Also standing out - or rather, standing up - is the universal remote, which Panasonic has dubbed The Tower. Thanks to its wide base, the remote can stand vertically on a coffee table or other surface, making it much easier to find. The keypad also illuminates at the touch of a button, so that you can distinguish FF and REC in a dark room.

    Gets the job done

    I purchased this for recording, and transferring old home movies. You really need to make sure you get one with the remote; without it you can't change speed and program auto tune. The picture quality isn't great, but not horrible either.

    Works fine

    I had two issues immediately after purchasing when setting the timer to record the VCR shut off immediately after the time record start up. I haven't had the issue since. It may have been the tape.

    Good product for "vintage" purposes

    This arrived just as described and works well considering it is thirty year old technology. The video quality on a large HDTV is not good, but that is to be expected given the nature of the tapes. I am transcribing old tapes onto DVD's and it works OK for this project.
