Best sounding of the THX amps if you use balanced headphones
It's got a nice sound stage, and will power a DT990 600ohm on the single ended side but doesn't leave much headroom for equalization. The best DAC for this I've heard is the Topping D10s which has a sharp filter that's ideal for music and really brings out the best in this amp. If you do a balanced DAC you'll have to do a -7db reduction to bring it down to 2.1volts to avoid clipping in high gain mode. All you need is 2.1v input to get the maximum power out of it. The Khadas Tone Board is another excellent sound, as well as the JDS Atom DAC. It's hard to go wrong, I even used 3.5mm to RCA to line out a Soundblaster G6 into one and it was fun for gaming. The XLR side means essentially unlimited power, so you can stay in normal gain mode on almost anything. The preamp out works just to pass through the RCA inputs, not the XLR inputs, so keeping with an RCA DAC is a really good idea. The Topping E50 is kingpin on this if you have the funds for it, then you're at the end of the road for upgrading ever again.
