    Enjoyable Old, Dark House Mystery from Universal

    I have always enjoyed this pre-code murder/mystery. Universal actually used some sets from ‘“ The Old Dark House ‘’ to weave a murder/mystery that had it’s origins 20 before the time frame of this story. After hearing the account of three murders that took place in “ The Blue Room “, three men compete for the affections of Irene ( a very young Gloria Stuart ). To prove his courage, Tommy suggests that he will spend the night in The Blue Room. Tommy adds a caveat, that no matter what happens to him, the other men must also follow through and spend the night. Lots of wind, rain, creaky doors, and a house full of red herrings make this an enjoyable 65 minutes. Great performance from Lionel Atwill, Paul Lukas, Onslow Stevens, Edward Arnold, and a very pre “ Titanic “ Gloria Stuart. Universal ...
