I resisted buying a Blu-Ray player because, never have seen one in use, I did NOT expect much difference from an "upscaling" DVD player. When I needed a device for "streaming" in a bedroom, I bought this Blu-Ray player for both streaming AND to play DVDs. I did not (and still do not) want to convert my DVD collection to Blu-Ray. I connected it to my main TV to test and played a DVD on it. I was BLOWN AWAY. The picture from a DVD was far superior to that when played on an "upscaling" DVD player. I don't know about other brands and other models, but I find the video output of THIS Samsung to be fantastic. Subsequently, I got the Star Trek Into Darkness movie in the combo Blu-Ray and DVD package. I watched it in Blu-Ray and then tried selected scenes on the DVD, all in THIS Samsung Blu-Ray player. I saw NO significant difference between the two formats. This is likely a function of the upscaling electronics of this player. Streaming from the included Amazon app is WONDERFUL, although searching in reverse is by time and not by video and the picture takes a couple of seconds to sharpen when restarted. ALSO, excellent SDH captioning through the Amazon app. BEWARE, not all Samsung models include the Amazon app and, apparently, if it isn't there from birth, it cannot be added. I DO NOT UNDERSTAND THIS! What I did not like, and continue to find a PIA, are the onboard controls of this player. When you go to it to change or insert a disc, the controls are tiny nubs molded into a maybe 3 inch diameter circle (at the 12, 3, 6 and 9 clock positions) on the plastic top in the front right of the player. Without a POWERFUL light, it is almost impossible to SEE the markings. You must fumble around to tough the right onw. My player is on a shelf within an entertainment unit behind glass doors. I open the doors and place my fingers on top of the unit and hope to hit the right nub. TERRIBLE DESIGN!! Samsung, if you read this, take note!!Read full review

1. When playing DVDs, it doesn't auto-resume unless stopped during playback. If you finish an episode and go back to the menu, the disc will not auto-resume. 2. Auto-Resume only remembers one disc. Sony remembers 3. 3. Stupid "black on black" colored buttons on top of black player are completely invisible. This is asinine. 4. Navigating in Netflix is really annoying and slow compared to Wii and other blu-ray players. Everything else is pretty good.

The firmware is still kept current. The Miracast feature to wirelessly send your Android screen to your TV is quick and easy to use and works great. The Lan cable and Wifi is quick and easy to use. The 3D works well, even works with youtube and Netflix. Which unlike some other Bluray players either stopped working because their firmware updates are no longer supported. The unit has the option to play video's, photos and music not only from USB but also from your home network shares which some other players lack. If I had any complaints they would be... The Opera apps are slow to respond to navigation and froze up a few times. The apps are very limited to about a dozen free apps and channels compared with newer units. Some places are still selling this unit for $150 today which is too high for a unit this old new when units like Sony's BP-6700 are $150. So if you can find a deal on one it will be a great find. Especially with 3D players and TV's getting more scarce to find with VR becoming a more mainstream replacement for 3D.Read full review

Like it a lot. I am technically challenged so I'm never looking forward to setting up new electronic equipment. This unit is close to idiot proof. Took it out of the box, hooked it up to the TV, plugged it in. After turning the TV and Blu ray on and setting the TV to the proper HDMI port, everything was very easy. Would buy another if I needed it.

Picture quality and 3D are great, my only complaint is the control is on the top of the unit and has black letters on a black background. Very difficult to read without moving out into a bright light, and impossible to stack.
