About this product

Product Information

Now more than ever: Aldous Huxley's enduring "masterpiece ... one of the most prophetic dystopian works of the 20th century" ( Wall Street Journal ) must be read and understood by anyone concerned with preserving the human spirit in the face of our "brave new world" Aldous Huxley's profoundly important classic of world literature, Brave New World is a searching vision of an unequal, technologically-advanced future where humans are genetically bred, socially indoctrinated, and pharmaceutically anesthetized to passively uphold an authoritarian ruling order--all at the cost of our freedom, full humanity, and perhaps also our souls. "A genius who] who spent his life decrying the onward march of the Machine" ( The New Yorker ), Huxley was a man of incomparable talents: equally an artist, a spiritual seeker, and one of history's keenest observers of human nature and civilization. Brave New World, his masterpiece, has enthralled and terrified millions of readers, and retains its urgent relevance to this day as both a warning to be heeded as we head into tomorrow and as thought-provoking, satisfying work of literature. Written in the shadow of the rise of fascism during the 1930s, Brave New World likewise speaks to a 21st-century world dominated by mass-entertainment, technology, medicine and pharmaceuticals, the arts of persuasion, and the hidden influence of elites. "Aldous Huxley is the greatest 20th century writer in English." --C hicago Tribune This book also includes the full text of Brave New World Revisited , Huxley's 1958 nonfiction followup to Brave New World .

Reviews
Huxley uses his erudite knowledge of human relations to compare our actual world with his prophetic fantasy of 1931. It is a frightening experience, indeed, to discover how much of his satirical prediction of a distant future became reality in so short a time., "[A] masterpiece. ... One of the most prophetic dystopian works of the 20th century." -- Wall Street Journal "As sparkling, as provocative, as brilliant...as the day it was published." -- Martin Green "One of the 20th century's greatest writers." -- Washington Post "Chilling. . . . That he gave us the dark side of genetic engineering in 1932 is amazing." -- Providence Journal-Bulletin "A genius . . . a writer who spent his life decrying the onward march of the Machine." -- The New Yorker "Aldous Huxley is the greatest 20th century writer in English." -- Chicago Tribune "Huxley uses his erudite knowledge of human relations to compare our actual world with his prophetic fantasy of 1931. • Brilliant

Brave New World is amazing. Brave New World Revisited is brilliant. If Huxley was not a prophet in the traditional sense he certainly was perceptive. No, we don't have our rocket packs like some of the science fiction of yesterday promised but rest assured some science fiction comes true and it's not for the betterment of mankind. Huxley starts BNW Revisited by comparing the difference between his book and George Orwell's 1984. He makes the case that his book has a better chance of becoming fact. While he makes a great case, I don't think he realized that both 1984 and Brave New World could fit together like hand in glove. If he could have seen the United States today and where many see it headed the big picture would have come into focus. Wake up America! 5 ...

  • Simply stunning

An interesting read with a haunting undertone that gets under your skin. The most stunning thing about this book is how relevant the social issues it contains seems today, despite being written in the 1930's. Highly recommended.

  • An amazing must read!

Aldous Huxley, way ahead of his time. This book is in the dystopia category along with 1984 and Fahrenheit 451. The difference is, Huxley takes it to a stunning level of complexity in how he designs the governmental structure and the social engineering involved to create and maintain it. For those of you who are interested in Social Science, this will give you plenty to think about it. Revisited is Huxley coming back to the book in the late 50's to discuss what he thinks about the current state of affairs and the progression towards his vision. Must read!

  • Just started reading, but a wealth of material for thought.

Book was in great conditions. Thanks.
