About this product

Product Information

Rather than create a straightforward port of the original Space Invaders, Atari opted to make a game that is very loosely based on the 1978 coin-op classic. This version is faster and less methodical, and the whirling, twirling, gyrating, mutating (in later levels) aliens are colorful and cute (to the point of silliness). Less significant differences include three bunkers instead of four and waves of 48 aliens instead of 55. Purists may scoff at this game, but it's a refreshing approach that works quite well. It's very challenging, quickly paced and a lot of fun. In addition, it has 12 variations, letting players dictate the number of lives (3 or 5) to start the game and what type of bombs the enemies fire (slow, fast and/or homing). Perhaps naming it "Space Invaders II" would have been more appropriate.

The Garmin GPS was packaged so well the box could have been used as a foot ball and survived with no problem. Sellers description of the item was dead on and to top it all off, it arrived one day early. 5 star seller. Wouldn't hesitate to buy from this seller in the future.

  • Best Classic System Port of ST:SOS

The Colecovision port of Sega's Star Trek"Strategic Operations Simulator" may be the best of the original ports of this Arcade Classic. Controls are sharp and responsive with both a standard Colecovision Controller or a Super Action Controller (SAC). The SAC Controller is slightly better for Photon Torpedoes and Warp Speed. BItmap graphics are a little static in the main display window, but the pace of this gam is unrelenting. Only thing missing is the Voice Synthesis. ST:SOS is a fairly rare title for the Colecovision, as it was released toward the end of the System's life. All in all, better graphics, sound and gameplay than the 2600 or 5200 versions.

  • Another arcade classic on the Atari 5200!

This game was orginally made for the arcade and the Atari 5200 version slighty different from the original. I must admit that I am not very good at this game, but it is a very popular game. The analog controllers for this system can make game play slightly more difficult to play. The game is easy to find and very affordable. I recommend getting a copy of this game for your Atari 5200 collection.

  • SPACE INVADERS ATARI 5200

SPACE INVADERS WAS, AND IS TRULY A LEGENDARY GAME. SO MANY VERSIONS OF IT HAVE BEEN RELEASED OVER THE YEARS THAT IT HURTS THE BRAIN. THE ATARI 5200 VERSION IS THE ONLY ONE THAT WAS DIFFERENT FROM ALL THE REST. INSTEAD OF JUST APPEARING ON SCREEN, THE WHOLE WAVE OF INVADERS ARRIVES FROM THE SIDE WHICH CHANGES GAMEPLAY CONSIDERABLY AND CAN MAKE AN OLD GAME SEEM NEW AGAIN. THE ONLY DOWNSIDE WAS THE SYSTEM'S CONTROLLERS WHICH WERE NOT TOO RELIABLE.

  • Space Shuttle

I never saw this item when it was new, I thought that it was non existant. I finally found one! This game is really cool, I have the 2600 version, but the 5200 version is way better, I just wish I had the overlays. The game is a bit time consuming, but is a lot of fun the whole time.

  • Good remake

Great remake of the 2600 classic. I did not own this game in 1982, so if you are a retro gamer I would recommend the 2600 version. For someone collecting for the 5200 this is a great addition to your collection.
