Harvest Moon: Save the Homeland marks a significant shift in focus for the series, becoming more of a "life simulation" than the "farm simulation" it once was. Unlike previous incarnations where the main objective was to resurrect a dying farm and ultimately turn a profit, this PS2 title presents players with a slightly more desperate predicament: The land upon which the village is built has been earmarked for the development of a new resort complex. Construction begins in exactly one year and in that time you'll have to find a way to save the village. Incidentally, there are nine different ways that this can be achieved, providing nine different game endings.<br><br>Harvest Moon: Save the Homeland is also the first title in the series to make use of 3D environments, and has included a user-definable camera that can be manipulated as needed with the aid of the right analog stick. The game also makes use of "cel-shading" -- a technique that has become synonymous with cartoon-style games.<br><br>Among the most significant changes are that annual events are no longer celebrated; the axe and hammer have been removed from your inventory; the variety of crops has been reduced, and land no longer needs to be cleared before crops can be planted. Also, the shipping bin has been eradicated, requiring that you take your crops to town yourself. With the emphasis no longer on your farm, relationships now become more important than ever; though, you can now only court the local ladies and not marry them. Cooking and the collection of recipes remain an integral part of the gameplay.<br><br>A standard day on the farm still revolves around checking the weather report and then tending to the animals and crops, but days now elapse significantly faster. Harvest Moon: Save the Homeland also features 20 new characters with which to interact, each with their own unique personalities, likes and dislikes, and birthdays which must be remembered at all costs.

    My Perfect Game

    Works perfectly! After 15 years my Harvest Moon finally gave out, I still love this game so much I needed a quick & easy replacement. Happy to have found that right here! Playing the same game as a 22 yr old college student that I was as a kid, but now playing with such a different perspective. As a young adult, playing this game reminds you to take a breather and appreciate life for what it is. We all get so caught up in our countless list of everyday tasks, it's easy to forget the purpose in everything. This game has such little dialogue overall, but the little that it has makes all the difference. Being told to "slow down" as I'm running around the town & farm reminds me that it's not about crossing each thing off the list, it's about the experience in the list itself.

    HM Save the Homeland

    This is another Harvest Moon game that could have been so much better with a few tweeks, but is still fun to play every now and again. My number one complaint is that: during night time in game, the screen goes black! You can't see where you are going, and can get lost in the dark. I have tried every setting on my tv and none make this better. If you can manage your time and be home before dark, then there isn't a problem. Still find this game fun to play.

    Farming...

    Yes the game is mostly about farming... Taking care of your animals, taking care of your crops... All while you have to save your town from developers... There are several different paths you can take to Save The Homeland... Horse Racing, Cake Baking, Fishing, Bird Watching, just to name a few... It&apos;s worth about 15 to 20 bucks, in my opinion... So if you like a laid back, non violent game, this one is for you... It&apos;s complex though, if you don&apos;t mind your animals they will get sick and die on you... If you don&apos;t take decent care of yourself then you will get sick and spend the whole day in bed while your animals go unattended for the day... Good Luck...

    Harvest Moon...Save the Homeland

    I really like this game because the game play is easy enough for my 5 year old daughter to play. You are able to work a farm, make friends and get married. There can be a lot going on in this game, but it is so fun. The only negative is how slow the interaction between the characters in the game can be. It is a positive for my 5 year old who is just learning how to read, so she can go slower. I like a faster moving narrative/interaction, however, I am impatient when it comes to playing games. I like to play fast.
