    First Pro-Camcorder

I am taking a course on film, and one of the prerequisites is having a pro camcorder. Not only did this one suffice, it happens to be one of my instructors favorite in the DV/HDV family. So now that I am teachers pet, I am getting a lot of special attention and learning a whole lot I would have otherwise had neglected. Wonderful images in the DV setting alone. Switching it over to HDV, the tape doesn't last as long, but the images and audio render into full HD. Love it!

  • A lot of camera for the money.

An excellent camera for the price and there are still tapes and batteries available for it. It connects to my Power Mac G5 by firewire so I can download videos to edit them. It takes awhile to learn all the features and it is pretty heavy, but the video quality is very good.

  • Exceptional Quality at a Budget Price

I now have three HDR-FX1 cameras, mainly because they are such great workhorse cameras with exceptional HD quality at an incredible price. Pros: three big imaging chips, fantastic lenses, good form factor, plush with manual controls. Cons: No XLR audio jacks, no progressive mode, and only records to tape internally. I have external solid-state chip recording devices that overcome the tape limitation, and they record in progressive. I also have two Sony HVR-A1U cameras and an HVR-Z7U. The FX1 is better than the single-imaging-chip A1U, but they're only slightly higher priced here on eBay.

  • Best Low-Light Camcorder still 2010 December

This camcorder still (after 6 years of being on market), still bests in low-light recording. It generates brighter color than the Canon HX-A1 (this is also a good camcorder) that we've had in the past. I'm waiting in the market for its replacement and I have not found better low-light camcorder as of yet. None of 2011 pre-announcements indicate that the low-light sensitivities will get better. Only draw back is that it does 1440x1080 instead 1920x1080. Battery on this camcorder (small one) lasts about 3 hours of recording. Large one will last about 8 tapes. Or 8 hours non-stop using citidisk (or small laptop -which is what i used since cheaper).

  • The Sony HDR-FX1: A work horse for filming in the Third World

We purchased the camera as a backup to the FX1 that we own. This camera is in excellent shape as it had been handled with immaculate care. The Sony FX1is a superlative camera in every respect. It's only drawback today is that it does not have the capability of recording to a solid state chip, recording only to mini DV tapes. Our original FX1 has been around the world a couple of times, from the jungles of southeastern Costa Rica to the streets df Phnom Penh, Cambodia and has never failed to capture the work. We do documentary work for missions and generally find our selves in the poorest places on the planet. The FX1 is a work horse strong enough to take the abuse of a dugout canoe on the Amazon River or the back of a pickup truck bouncing along the worst of paths that Haiti can offer. ...
