  • AMD FX 4170 4.2ghz CPU

Using for a budget HTPC on a ASUS M4A89GTD pro/usb3 board I built several years ago. 1GB XFX 4850 GPU and 1333mhz HyperX memory in a Thermal take Matrix case. Every thing at stock settings. Runs hot with a Corsair H50 with 1 push fan running Prime95. Stays under 55 degrees tops under normal loads. (Idles at 34 degrees). Will install another for push/pull and open up the cases fan holes to increase airflow. May need to install a larger cooler.. but otherwise it works nicely for my needs. H50 may not be enough for this monster. Not a gamer, so it suits my purposes just fine. Breathed a little life into my old AM3 board. Chip purchased at a good price used. Works for me. Computer used for Browsing the Web and Streaming.

  • Little Engine that Could

Actually replaced an AMD FX6350 with this. The computer is 32bit Windows 8.1, 8GB-DDR3. It serves for document creation, web-browsing, photo-shopping, and minor DX9 graphics playing. Also runs Nvidia PureVideo codecs for DVD watching. My only gripe with the FX series in general is an Anti-Virus program that sometimes stalls the AMD 970 chipset functions. I believe it was less noticeable with the Nvidia unified driver architecture of the previous motherboard and AMD Phenom-II x4, which was controlled by Nvidia N-force system management chipset. Oddly, the FX-4170,which shares the fastest FSB with FX-6350 also seems more nimble without the extra core. Because it's factory clocked @ 4200MHz, I'm cooling it with a direct-contact heat-tube CPU cooler. Time will tell whether it's ...

  • This thing kicks major dork ass......lol

This thing is the perfect gaming cpu...don't believe the hype when others shoot this thing down...you can pop this thing in and it will not bottle neck any fricken graphic card out there....don't waste your money with all these fancy ass 8 cores for nothing cpu's floating around...if your gaming this is what you want....spend the rest of the money on ram and good graphics card...i don't even got to overclock this thing and it dosent bottle neck my TITAN....enough said...
