Finally, after 15 years, Ys is back in the States. Ys book I & II was a phenomenal game for the TurboCD. The ramming into enemies took some getting used to, but after awhile it was second nature. It was an Action/RPG in the same vein as the Zelda series with the same 3/4 top-down perspective. Then Ys III: Wanderers from Ys was released. It was a huge departure, went for a side-scroller instead of top-down as in all other Ys games. Ys III is like Zelda II, side-scrolling and considered the "black sheep" of the franchise. In the coming years, multiple versions of Ys IV and V would be released in Japan, along with an update of the originals Ys Book I & II complete. None made it to the US. Then Konami got involved. Got the rights and announced Ys VI: The Ark of Napishtim would be coming to the US. Ys VI: goes back to what made Ys Book I & II a masterpiece. No side-scrolling as in III, but back to the Action/rpg roots of the series. They touched up the graphics while porting it to the PS2 and they look superb. The gameplay is the fastest in the series so far and the music is amazing. The music is always great in the Ys games, and this is one of the best soundtracks yet. This is definitely a throw-back to the early days of Action/RPGs.Read full review
I once rented this game, a long time ago, and didnt beat it before i returned it. I couldnt find it again for a while, and i wanted to beat it, because it was a great game. The graphics were pretty fair for its age, and the music was also good enough that it didnt bug you, and was actually enjoyable at times. It was a minor RPG, in the sense that you did level up, buy armor and items, and were able to improve on your sword. But it wasn't a real in depth RPG, which was a good thing because it made it more action packed. The story kept you interested, though it could use improvement. but the basic idea behind the story was also quite interesting. The CG's were nice, the voice acting was, in most cases, awful at best, and the ending was fairly good, though it could also do with a little improvement. All in all, it is worth at least to rent and beat once, and hope for a sequal.Read full review

Fun adventure with many hours of battles and riddles to solve. As a devoted fan of the Final Fantasy series,I bought this game for it's RPG-style gameplay. It came recommended and I am happy that I bought it.Some elements of the game are difficult, but not too hard.I would not recommend this game to anyone under the age of 7.(unless they are a seasoned RPG player)Overall a fun game with over 30 hours of playtime!
The beginning story is a little drawn out and slightly confusing, but once you get past it and into the game itself, it is actually quite fun. The little bug things in the tunnel to the other side of the island are a pain though! :) The controls are pretty easy once you find the guy who tells you what to press. The graphics are not too bad for the age of the game too. Overall, Enjoyable!
