Product Information

Indiana Jones and the Infernal Machine is a port of the PC title released in 1999. The year is 1947 and World War II has recently ended. Dr. Henry Jones, also known as Indiana Jones, has decided to resume his digging career in the southwestern United States. Unbeknownst to him, over in Europe the Soviet Union has placed Communist agents everywhere to search for a weapon that could shift the balance of power in their favor. <br><br>A Russian scholar by the name of Gennadi Volodnikov is most interested in the Tower of Babel. It is there that he believes a machine exists that is capable of travelling through space and time. Legend has it that this machine, inspired by the god Marduk, was completed. However, when completed the Babylonians became alarmed and sent four of Marduk's diciples, along with parts of the machine, to the far corners of the globe. <br><br>Players assume the role of Indiana Jones who, after learning of the Soviet's plans, knows he must now race against the Soviets in order to recover the parts and keep the "Infernal Machine" from being repaired. Indy will not be alone though, as he will find help in the form of CIA agent Sophia Hapgood (who is making a return appearance from the PC game Indiana Jones and the Fate of Atlantis) and her boss, military intelligence officer Simon Turner. <br><br>As Indiana Jones, players can perform a variety of actions: walk, run, jump, roll, pull, push, climb, hang, shimmy across ledges, swim, punch, and use a large number of weapons. Weapons include: bare fists, a whip, .45-calibur revolver, 9mm automatic pistol, machine pistol, combat rifle, machete, submachine gun, pump action shotgun, bazooka, satchel charges, and hand grenades. Also, at key moments in the game players will be given the opportunity to drive a jeep, ride a raft, and ride a mine car.<br><br>Indiana Jones and the Infernal Machine is viewed from a third-person perspective throughout the 16 levels and one bonus level. While playing through the levels players will be awarded I.Q. points. Points, that vary based on the difficulty setting, are gained by completing levels and finding particular objects. The highest possible score is 1,000 I.Q. points.

    This videogame takes place 4 years after BOOK 13 - Indiana Jones and the Army of the Dead. It is set during the Cold War, in the year 1947, and features Sophia Hapgood - now a member of the Central Intelligence Agency - as the female lead in the narrative. Dr. Gennadi wants to find and restore the four pieces of this Infernal Machine to aid the Russians in the Cold War, and good ol' Professor Henry Walton Jones Jr. (a.k.a. "Indy") is the only one that can stop him. This adventure is followed by the "WYOMING 1950" bookend narrative portion of "The Adventures of Young Indiana Jones: Chapter 20 - Mystery of the Blues" It goes without saying that for the completist fan who wants every single adventure in the (July 1899: Birth date)-1908-1957 Indiana Jones timeline - books and all, this game ...

    This is an interesting and engaging video game. Plot (from Wikipedia): In 1947, Sophia Hapgood, an old friend of Indiana Jones, informs him that the Russians are excavating the ruins of Babylon, and asks him to find out what they are looking for. Indiana finds out that they are looking for an ancient machine used to communicate with the Babylonian god Marduk. He finds a tablet showing the locations of the machine's pieces. Indy then embarks on a mission to find the parts to the Infernal Machine. One is located in an ancient sanctuary leap in the mountains of Kazakhstan, one in an active volcano in the Philippines, one in an ancient Olmec pyramid in the valleys of Mexico and the final part is located in a tomb in the hot deserts of the Sudan.     Indiana Jones/Infernal Machine (N64) game review

    This game was only released through Blockbuster and is a bit hard to find. It was developed by Lucas Arts and features great visuals and sound for this platform. The gameplay can be a little awkward at times, and the camera can sometimes be frustrating, but all in all, it is a gem for a collector. If you are a fan of Indiana Jones and a collector of video games, I would recommend it. Note - this game also uses the additional memory chip for the N64, so if you haven't already upgraded your system, you might consider doing so with this game (this chip is also used to great effect by Rogue Squadron).

    Clunky n64 controls for a great film to game. Ambitious to say the least for the hardware it had to work with.
