Canon PIXMA MP280 All-In-One Inkjet Printer
This is a surprisingly good combination printer/scanner/copier for the money, and it is an excellent choice for most home users, so I am basing my review and star rating on that basis. It's very good for printing nice vacation or family pictures or making greeting cards or such. You can do nice borderless prints up to 8.5 x 11 inches. There are more expensive and higher-quality printers available for professionals, but a printer like this is a better choice for casual users. I was also very happy with the quality when printing a text document. The text appeared very crisp and clear. The printer is quite lightweight and easy to handle. Setup was quite painless except for the problem of not having a USB cable included in the box. This is so annoying, but Canon is not the only ... Setup was quite painless except for the problem of not having a USB cable included in the box. This is so annoying, but Canon is not the only manufacturer guilty of this shortcoming. Basic usage is fairly intuitive, but I recommend loading the manual from the included CD. It is quite comprehensive, but easy to navigate and understand. This printer has quite a few unexpected features. As one example, although it is easy to scan using the autoscan feature, there are many other settings and options available for scanning, including saving in PDF format and even a rudimentary OCR function to convert scanned text document to editable text. The copier function also works well for a basic model. Keep in mind that it is limited in size to an original of 8.5 by 11.7 inches. It can reduce or enlarge, but only in set sizes, primarily between full-page size and 4 x 6". At the price of this printer, I was not expecting any reduce/enlarge functions at all, so here I am counting it as a plus, not a minus.

Printer was made available in September 2010, the Canon Pixma MP280 offers impressive output quality, but its minimal features and higher-than-average ink costs mean that only low-volume users need apply. The Canon Pixma MP280's speed is middling. On a Windows PC, plain-text pages averaged 5.6 pages per minute, and photos came out at 1.5 ppm. Its text speed was identical on a Mac, but the higher-resolution photo we used in that test understandably took longer. Scanning and copying were slower than average. Where the Canon Pixma MP280 really shines is in the quality of its output. At default settings on plain paper, text looked nicely black and very smooth, but photos appeared too orangey; the effect disappeared when we switched to Canon's own photo paper. Colour copies were ... Though it comes with manual duplex help for PC users, Mac users get nothing. The software is the same capable printing, scanning, editing bundle you get with Canon's more-expensive units. The control panel's buttons are labelled, but the bulk of communication relies too heavily on a single-digit LED and a small array of indicator lights; their codes and flashing are impossible to understand unless you consult the on-screen manual. The standard-size, 220-page black costs £14.99, or 7p per page. The 224-page, tri-chamber colour cartridge costs £19.99 or 9p per page. The high-yield inks offer little relief. A low-volume user might be able to tolerate such costs.

Used Canon Pixma MP280
I bought this printer to replace my highly used worn out MP280. So far so good. I don't foresee any problems with this printer in the near or distant future. It's easy to use and prints excellent photos.

Needing something affordable and yet handle high volume printing? This printer is great for every feature it provides. I use mine daily for my eBay business and my child's home schooling needs. I have no problems printing multiple documents at a time, scanning is simple and fast, I also copy anything with just the touch of a button. I can also choose color options for any copies I need to make with the touch of a button. This printer is conservative on ink usage. I never get spotty print jobs where the ink cartridge spits out more ink some spots than others. Even better the ink is rapid dry and doesn't smudge so my documents are ready to use as soon as the printer places a finished document in the tray. I would recommend this item to anyone.
