The MSI NVIDIA GeForce 8400 GS is a streamlined GPU that is compatible with many motherboards supporting DDR3 graphics cards. It is a 1GB graphics card with PCI-E slots and a HDMI output. The Nvidia GeForce (N8400GS-MD1GD3H) video card is optimized for quiet running and improved compatibility with many systems. This is due to MSI’s military-grade, well-profiled construction. The MSI NVIDIA GeForce 8400 GS video card is also designed with advanced users and developers in mind. You can customize the GeForce 8400 GS to fit in with the rest of your system perfectly. The video card enables you to play HD-quality videos with improved clarity and detail. The graphics card is also designed for light gaming. The MSI NVIDIA GeForce 8400 GS has PCI expansion capabilities. This is compatible with PCI Express v1 and v2.0 x16. PCI Express improves AGP-8 performance, which results in transfer rates of over 4Gbps. The memory bandwidth is 6.4Gbps, and is 64bit. The video card has a memory capacity of 1GB, which is supported by dual RAMDAC technology, clocked at 400Mhz. The GPU is augmented by Nvidia’s GigaThread architecture, which allows for thousands of separate threads to work on shader code. The architecture of the GPU also devotes processing power to shading at the pixel, physical, vertex or geometric levels as needed. NVIDIA Quantum Effects also take more shading-effect strain off the CPU, for more streamlined gaming or playback. This adds more realistic texture to your games or video. The MSI Nvidia GeForce N8400GS-MD1GD3H video card also offers improvements in lighting (with added high-dynamic range) and anti-aliasing (16X) to add to its video-reproduction experience. The graphics card also has Nvidia PureVideo adaptations. These include improved scaling, video processing and hardware acceleration for many video formats (i.e., 720p and 1080p MPEGs, as well as H.264, VC-1 and WMV files). Nvidia PureVideo also offers enhanced edge definition and noise reduction. The Nvidia GeForce N8400GS-MD1GD3H video card also includes a DVI output. This enables it to control a screen with a resolution of up to 2560 x 1600. The output is driven by the video card’s RAMDAC, which can refresh at a rate of up to 85Hz. This MSI NVIDIA GeForce graphics card is certified to work with Windows 7. It is also compatible with every video interface standard supported by this OS. These include DirectCompute 5.0, DirectX 10 and 11 and OpenGL 4.0. It also complies with OpenCL and OpenGL 3.1 interfaces.     Caution: Heatsink may be too big for your Mother Board's PCIex16 Slot !

    Its removable, but that defeats the purpose and function of a fan-less small form factor (half width) graphics card. I just pull out a hack saw and whacked off the corner that would not allow me to fully insert to the slot. I installed on a Dell MoBo GX-620 MiniTower with intel chipset 945, if I recall. For $20 used oem it was worth it. I recommend this card if you are upgrading video on a system like mine: A mid line, circa 2005 (XP or Vista came preinstalled) system with a PCIe x 16 slot. If your Motherboard takes 4GB max RAM then this is likely the correct upgrade to your system. Keep in mind, 1 GB (on the video card) is about all you'll need, anything more will require a newer motherboard and additional power and cooling, so there are limits.     Works with GNU/LINUX out of the box

    Am currently using it with Debian 8.2 Jessie without any problems. Bought as a replacement for an AMD graphics card that wasn't compatible with Gnome 3 so I looked for something that was going to be compatible with all GNU/Linux open source operating systems. Tried it with a live disk of Trisquel and it recognised the graphics card and my dual monitors were showing at the correct resolution without any tweaking required. Glad it was cheaper than buying it from ThinkPenguin.
