Thei film from 1936..with music by Irving Berlin is a dance-musical masterpiece, growing in appreciation. The modern critics have had trouble with the double-couple format....but in fact, the contrast makes it all the more interesting to an increasing number of people. It includes three wonderful paired dances...and two Astaire solos, and one Rogers solo. At the ending, it features one of the greatest paired dances between a man and a woman of all time: "Let's Face the Music and Dance"...which is a playlet within the film. The prodigious talent..on the part of both Fred and Ginger...to pull it off is on display: pantomime, singing, acting...and of course dancing. This dance alone reaches the level of the sublime. Anyone who has not seen it owes it to themselves to see it before they leave the earth....for it is immortal. Other dances included a great paired tap routine...."Let Yourself Go", which Ginger sings beautifully, and to which they both dance, in a dance contest within the plot. Also the delightful playful dance "I'm Puttin' All My Eggs in One Basket"...first sung one to another, and then danced. It is the soul of delight. All in all, it's a quality film...not their greatest, but a film of great spirit, and fun, and heart.Read full review
