About this product

Product Information

Supreme Commander says it's time to bring some real strategy to real-time strategy gaming. The sci-fi war game is laid out to let players see and control any and all of the fighting, from isolated skirmishes between single squadrons to the coordinated maneuvers of all allied forces across an entire continent. Scope and scalability are what set Supreme Commander apart from its predecessors in the style. The player's view can be zoomed, smoothly and continuously, from a detailed focus on a single unit to an encompassing panorama of the entire theater of war. The game's interface is streamlined for strategic movements and synchronized attacks, allowing players to coordinate the actions of vehicles and troops on a global level with ease and efficiency.

Regarding its 2007 release into the real-time strategy realm of computer gaming, Supreme Commander is reminiscent of lead developer Chris Taylor's breakthrough project of a decade earlier. With its cutting-edge graphics and balanced gameplay, Taylor's Total Annihilation is generally considered the first successful real-time strategy game in true 3D. By relating each base and battlefield in an realistic, relevant, global way, Supreme Commander also aims to introduce significant new aspects of play to the style. As innovative as it aims to be, the game also embraces many comfortable conventions, offering intuitive control to practiced PC strategists. Single-player campaigns follow an original but familiar futuristic storyline that pits three very different factions against one another, each fighting righteously for a cause it deems vital to its very survival.

This is indeed the spiritual descendant of total annihilation. There is a grand scale not found in any other real time strategy game I have played. First the bad -I think the learning curve is a bit too steep and units abilities could have been explained much more clearly in the in-game tool tips (which is my main problem with the game). For example there is an air craft carrier you can load planes onto. Once they were on though they wouldn't automatically engage nearby units... so it was more of an aircraft transport for long distances since they use fuel. Or is there a command to make the aircraft engage? It doesn't tell you these things, you just have to find out for yourself or read an online strategy guide perhaps. Another example is the tech tree is indecipherable. For example your ...

  • Great RTS Game

Pros-Gigantic game with hundreds of units on screen, you can zoom out to view the entire battlefield and control the battle still zoomed out to the max, the "press shift and queue up orders to Timbuktu system" is awesome, over two-hundred land, sea and air units, should be a great modded game, great graphics zoomed in, good overall story and online play is a big strong point. Cons-There's not a big difference in the personality and flavor of the units of the 3 factions, (a cookie cutter feel) the battles can be very long and the high system requirements. (so make sure you can run this game) Reply value: Offline missions-You'll play the missions once or twice Offline skirmish-High Online-Very High (If you want to know anything more about this game or the things I mentioned in this ...

  • PC GAME RTS: Supreme Commander Review

Supreme Commander is the latest real time strategy game designed in the spirit of its predecessor, Total Annihilation. Supreme Commander delivers the 3d battlefield beautifully with all the controls and macro tools provided in the original Total Annihilation, plus more. Insane unit counts, huge maps, and the ability to use the latest in gaming PC hardware, Supreme Commander is not for the faint of heart gamer with half the hardware. Hours of game play per level during the campaign and the visuals are breath taking. Your PC from five years ago will MELT. Get something dual core with a good 2gigs of ram and a good 512mb graphics card and you can enjoy this game as it was meant to be enjoyed. From long range artillery to massive nuclear strikes, and from single squads of super advanced ...

  • Fun, Challenging, and Addictive. RTS at it's best!

My friend introduced me to this game. He was a big fan of Total Annihilation back in the day, and of course he jumped on this as soon as it was released. I'm more of a casual RTS game player, I like my Command and Conquer and Age of Empires, but never really got into the hardcore online multiplayer gameplay. He showed me this game and I was interested. Now that I own the game and play it, this could be my new favorite RTS game. This plus the expansion are very easy to learn, and the way the game is played is just addictive! I would recommend this game to anybody wanting to play a new age RTS game and have lots of fun learning how to play competitively!

  • Supreme Commander

The gaming clan I play with is really into this game right now. I myself dont like it much and will probably be reselling it very soon. The game moves to slow for me. I currently play Battlefield 2142. Battlefield moves at a much faster pace. The game also demands alot of your PC. If you are not running a big graphics card and a fast CPU the game lags bad. Online plaay is the same way you need a pretty powerful PC to run this game to it full potential. I am running a 3.0 Pentium D with a BFG 7600 GT OC 256mb, 1gig of memory and cable modem. With this set up I have to run in low rez or it lags real bad. Hope this helps someone out there.
