OK for the price
This is about what I expected for a component in this price range. Pros: It has about ± 50° of travel. Three full length t-slots that roughly fit 7/16" T-Nuts It has a scale for setting angles to within a few degrees The worm drive is mounted in ball bearings It comes with a 14/17 open end wrench and a paint brush for chips. It is a heavy piece of equipment. Cons: Travel is restricted by the pillow block type bearings on the worm drive. They will hit on the table unless the unit is elevated when mounted. The worm drive shaft between the bearings is just a little too long and binds up the bearings Castings and machining are rough and file work is required. Two of the T slots were not wide enough to accept the T nuts. One was fine but the others needed to be widened by .015 inches and .03 ... This is about what I expected for a component in this price range. Pros: It has about ± 50° of travel. It’s a project kit !
For $63.00 delivered, I won’t complain too much, I expected razor sharp edges and grinding grit and was not disappointed. What I didn’t expect was bearings that were crunchy at best and pillow blocks that are nowhere near to lining up with each other making the crank handle useless, otherwise, upon a cursory inspection with a DTI, the ground surfaces appear relatively flat and parallel to each other, also when the bolts are loosened to tilt the table there is nothing keeping it from moving left and right about a 1/16 of an inch. All in all, it’s 63 bucks worth of machined cast iron that needs some serious re-machining and retrofitting in order to be usable, Not a total loss on my part but if you can find a similar used unit made in America 40 or 50 years ago for even double the price, you ... For the price it's OK
It's about what I expected for the price. It's not the same quality as the ones from MSC costing $440 or a similar table costing $150. Quality costs. The one I received was .008" out of parallel which can be compensated for with shims. The tilting drive was crunchy but it did move OK. It has a ton of backlash which is easy to deal with. One the table is clamped it stays clamped. I have a milling machine and surface grinder Truing the table was not a problem. A mill, even an accurate mini mill will do an adequate job. It's very easy to disassemble which I did. I polished all the sliding surfaces, removed the bearings, pried out the rubber seals and lubed them. They look to be a pretty common 27mm bearing so replacing them shouldn't be a problem if you desire. The tiling drive works ... It's about what I expected for the price. I used a digital level to check it. All work necessary except getting the table true can be done with basic hand tools. THe backlash is the backlash. Think of it as a feature rather than a defect. Remember it was well under a hundred dollars.
