The shape and size are different from the original, but I figured out why when I realized that the old battery was rated for 4.2Ah, while the new one is good for 5.2Ah, so that explains it; more batteries inside! Popped it into the laptop and it powered it right up. When I plugged it into the wall socket it immediately started charging, which the old one failed to do. So everything's good now!
