Causes Pentium 4 to overheat and go into thermal shutdown.
Just doesn't work. I installed exactly as required, using thermal paste and new bracket. My P4 overheated and went into into thermal shutdown within minutes of boot. Terrible burning smell as a result. I though I'd fried my CPU. So I reinstalled my old fan-powered heatsink back on my P4, which fortunately was undamaged.

One of the best for P4
This is a well built cpu fan and copper-core heatsink. I used this model for years on both of my primary P4 machines, before upgrading to quad cores and changing the motherboards. It IS tricky to get it installed correctly, and for any commenters who note failure or overheating, you either aren't getting good contact, or none at all. I've seen some people try to install this without the mounting bracket, i.e. just resting on the cpu. This will definitely not work. The fan side brackets must be clicked into place symmetrically, then the clamp levers engaged. If it doesn't look absolutely level and square, or is not locked tight, start over.This is a well built cpu fan and copper-core heatsink.
