      Budget friendly 1095 carbon steel knife.

      This is a great knife for all of those trips into the woods, working around the farm, or for stocking a supply pack. The blade is right at 1/4 inch thick, has a robust full tang, and is crafted from 1095 high carbon steel. The handles are excellent, they can be easily gripped wet or dry, and provide superb traction in-hand while using it. The knife itself is impressive, but its accessories are great too, coming equipped with a palm-sized diamond coated sharpener and a fire starter and striking chip. However, the entire value of this set seems to be wrapped up in the knife and accessories, the sheath is useable but is made very basic. The sheath is nylon and has an elastic strap that wraps around the front accessory pocket, the pocket itself is closed with velcro, but the elastic on my ...

      the knife work great for chopping

      the cons are the knife is too thick its hard to cut with and it hard to put an edge on it .the diamond stone is not hard enough to put an edge on the knife . the coating on the knife chips off the first time you use the knife .

      Solid Quality

      I'll admit that I like the Shrade brand, and I have owned a few over the past 50 years, and have never had any problems with the knives I've owned. This knife is solid, and keeps it's edge extremely well. Whether you're dressing out a 1,200 lb elk, whittling a walking stick, or shaving tinder for a camp fire, it handles it in stride. The bonuses that came as a standard part of this knife's package were pretty nice too. The sharpener is big enough to fine tune the edge when you need to, yet tucks away in it's own pocket in the sheath when it's not needed. The fire starter works good too, and also tucks away when it's not needed. I bought two, one for myself of course, and another for my friend of 40 years.

      Great Knife. A must have!!!

      This knife will stand with the more expensive knives in its class at a fraction of the price. You can't beat that. Same quality 1040 Carbon steel just not made in the USA, but what is any more. Maybe not as much TLC goes into the knife as the ones made here in the states, but I'm about to push this tool to its limits and not have to worry about being out nothing but under $30. I have already stripped the blade coating and did a force patina with boiling white vinegar. Watch youtube to find out how. It will help keep this blade from rusting on you, but it still needs to be maintained.

      Excellent when I expected mediocre

      I bought this as a back up unit. It’s has a great feel , it doesn’t feel cheap. The blade is of good quality. The fire starter is also very good. I used the sharpener and it actually worked better than my stone. I like the knife a lot.
