Excellent value, hi quality HO engine.
These Srewart/Kato engines can be found on Ebay for reasonable prices. They are extremely good quality Kato drive mechanism and heavy weight chassis that make them powerfull pullers for longer trains. They are as smooth and quiet as any of my new, hi tech engines. The body and paint is very nice as well. These engines are easily updated for DCC & sound and available detail kits for the bodies. I usually leave them as they come for easier handling. I will run these engines more than my newer ones due to long lasting reliability for less operating costs and down time. I don't miss details as much when operating on a layout. The longer I run Stewart/Kato engines, the better they tend to run, especially when crawling very slow in a switching yard, so smooth and realistic! The later mfg. ...
