    It was supposed to be a DVD-RW/ CD-RW drive but what I received was only a DVD -RW and I it was in fair cosmetic condition. The unit does works well and recognized a DVD I owned. A nice compliment to the Dell D400 laptop that does not have a built in DVD or CD drive. After you connect it to the laptop, it is recognized and will work ( and shows up under the hardware device manager. If you don't need to use it, or don't want to carry it around with the laptop, just unplug it's USB connection until want to use it again.
