Unlike the universal adapters that you usually find for much cheaper, these will actually provide a fully digital-to-component 480p signal. So far, nobody has managed to create a true 3rd party component for the gamecube that actually plugs into the digital port included on the early release models of the console (though even if your console doesn't have one, supposedly it is still possible to send your non-digital gamecube to Nintendo and they will send you back a digital one.) The reason for this is due to the fact that the gamecube cables are not simply cables. They also include a chip housed in the plug itself directly behind where they plug into the console which takes the digital signal and converts it into component YPbPr format. 3rd party cables meanwhile will plug into the A/V output and will provide lesser quality video, even while going through component cables. The reason for this is because only the digital port will output at 480p OR 480i, while the A/V output will always only output at 480i. Pros: Higher quality cables Higher quality 480i signal Ability to display full 480p Official Nintendo parts Cons: Very rare, no longer being made Due to the built in chip (and partially due to rarity) more expensive Only works with early-run consoles fitted with digital ports (non-digital consoles can be 'traded' to Nintendo for a digital one)Read full review
A great way to get a better image out of your old GameCube and GameBoy games (via the GameBoy Player), but they can really go for unreasonable prices sometimes. It's a pretty good find for less than $175 and gives an image leagues better than composite or s-video. Pick this up if you love to see more details from your favorite GameCube games, but definitely not required for just playing something casually.

Awesome cable. Great picture and build quality. Super happy I bought it. Totally worth it to me, but I doubt it would be for most people. Way too expensive.

These cables give you literally the best video quality you can get out of the Gamecube. They're even a slight step up from playing through component cables on the Wii. Everything looks super sharp and colors are vibrant and beautiful. Super Mario Sunshine, F-Zero, and StarFox Assault in particular have never looked better. The only downside is that these cables had an extremely limited release in the US and Japan and as a result are very expensive and hard to find now. I only recommend scooping them up if you afford the $250+ price tag and are a serious collector or a gaming purist. You'll wanna grab them sooner rather later too, because the price only going to rise as time goes on. If you're not a crazy person like me, I recommend just buying a Wii and some component cables instead as both of those together are still gonna cost less than this one cable, and it'll give you access to the Wii's criminally underrated library.
