Notes
Neko is a major poet by any standard, a songwriter less intersted perhaps in traditional narrative form than in distilling a pure moment of time. She claimes no genre, nor utilizes any calssic formula for her songs and singing. More than anything she trhives in the spaces in between her music. After two years in the making FOX CONFESSOR BRINGS THE FLOOD is in many ways the sum total of her journey.

I advise you to look for another seller, since all the discs arrived scratched, the violator plays only once, the seller did not pack the goods well, it was wrapped in tape and some thin scraps of cardboard. As a result, 2 of the 3 jewel cd box arrived as debris. I highly recommend it(((

  • Perfect!

In 100 years North America will be remembered for 2 positive contributions to art. Orsen Welles and Neko Case. Neko Case could sing the phone book and make it sound poignant. But she instead melts your heart with such human sentiment layered in primitive coyote howls. Fox confessor is every macabre fairy tale uttered by Grimm syruped with a thick coating of experienced cynicism. It is filtered through such a sugary stained glass pane that you almost forget that you are smiling while a lonely red fox bays to the grey night sky. There is NOTHING in American contemporary art quite like Neko Case. Nothing at all. Biographical pain. As if the people in Case's personal life must fear being the subject of sad murder ballads. In the words of Charles Foster Kane "You ...

  • Masterpiece of an album

The perfect counter argument to anyone who says there isnโ€™t great country music out there; The songwriting, storytelling and emotion poured into this record is truly immaculate.

  • Live MP3 on NPR.org is better

This is an example of an excellent musician getting ruined by a lousy producer. In live concerts of Neko Case she has a gorgeous voice with just a bit of an edge. It draws you in, it tickles your brain. This CD manages to be recorded 'perfectly' which knocks the edges off her singing and makes it, well, bland. The songs are excellent - and I truly like the album - but I'd rather download the (free) concert from NPR.org / Music / live concerts.

  • Her voice is just amazing....Similar to Mazzy Star

I first heard Hold On Hold On on the T.V. on a cable channel...I kept hearing it..not knowing who it was..but loved the song...then I heard the song again in Starbucks...I asked WHO IS THIS!! I wrote her name down Neko Case (cool name also I think) and ordered it on ebay :) All the songs are great...similar style voice but with more soul/jazz than Mazzy Star..I play it alot..and still am not tired of it. :) 5 thumbs up from me!

  • Fox Confessor Brings the Flood - Neko Case

As good as the reviews I read. Interesting, literate, compelling songs performed simply and beautifully. Case's voice is pretty but not cute, easy on the ears. The lyrics are enigmatic, elliptical, but accessible. A really unique release, and well worth the time and money.
