On a full frame camera, 12mm-24mm is perfect for tight spaces, architecture, and wide angle shots. It has no fish-eye effect. Although not sharp at all at the edges, it is very functional in the middle 3/4's of the frame. I paid over $500. and I feel it is worth every cent. At f/ 4.5, not the fastest lens, but has reasonably good sharpness to the corners and does not seem to suffer from chromatic aberration.
