The dixie Narco 501E SIID is good in it's design intentions to give 9 selections, choice of bottle or can vending and multiple pricing options.
However, it fails to deliver on it's cheap mechanics. Namely the plastic membrane with the embedded circuit for selection control. It hangs down precariously from bolts that protrude into holes in the plastic membrane. The rubber backing is in 2 pieces behind the membrane and must be lined up perfectly with the plastic piece on the bolts and hang down vertically directly behind the membrane. The plastic buttons must make contact with the touchpad in order to relay the selection to the main board.
This design is almost impossible to replace, because of the location on the back of the door which makes it hard to hold and adjust while making the bolts tight against the unit. After many hours of trying to replace the membrane, my mechanic and I were able to make most of the selections operable, but the last 2 switches would not make contact with the membrane. There is and older design of this model which has each selector switch individually wired to the main board with hard wiring. This seems to be a much better design, but was apparently to expensive to continue producing. Again, they don't make them like they use to.
