  • I'm loving it!

I had been working with an old Fostex MR8-HD for years until it started being unreliable. Went to a laptop/USB Interface/software solution but it added more stuff to transport and more setup time even when recording at home. On a whim I decided to try out the R24 and have been thrilled with it! It is easy to learn and I have no complaints about the sound of anything I have recorded (except for when it is me being recorded!). I love the fact it uses an SD card instead of a spinning hard drive like my old Fostex. It weighs like a quarter of the Fostex! Plus, having the onboard microphones is great for just hitting record and getting down some impromptu ideas. All in all, I can't think of anything to complain about it!

  • Great, easy to use tool needed by anyone wanting to record music

I only just recently picked one of these up. I have an old Tascam 414 4-track tape recorder and another old Tascam DP-01 8-track digital recorder. Both of these units were and still are great, but I wanted to upgrade to a newer multitrack recorder. I decided that I needed at least a 24-track recorder, and was looking into the Tascam units, but was very disappointed with the amount of "actual" tracks. I play the instruments myself and don't need a lot of stereo tracks that are automatically linked. I came across the Zoom R24 on the internet and began to research the reviews on it. I have used Zoom's guitar pedals for the past 19 years and have been very pleased with them. I was also interested in the drum machine and sequencer, as I can not play the drums myself, and had been looking into a stand-alone unit. After my research, I found an R24 for a great price, bought it, and as soon as it was in my hands was up and recording. I was able to find "How-to" videos on YouTube for things that I could not understand in the manual, and have been very pleased with the performance and sound of this unit. I was a little concerned when I received it, mainly because of how light the unit is. Compared to my DP-01, it must weigh about 5 pounds less, but the DP-01 has an internal hard drive for memory, while the R24 has an SD drive. With my past knowledge of the Tascam units, there was only a slight learning curve to begin with this. I recorded a whole song in about an hour, using a drum loop that I had already had. I decided to try to sequence a complete song's worth of drums, and after about 3 hours of compiling and re-working, I had a great-sounding drum part, exactly as I had imagined, that went completely with a song that I was in the process of writing. I was able to record the entire song in another hour, including 3 guitars, bass, and 3 vocals, and still had another 8 tracks to work with if I needed them. The effects on this unit seem to be great also, right in line with the guitar pedals I already have. I used 2 different distortions for recording 2 guitars, a bass effect, and different vocal effects also. It is my understanding that most recordings are done dry, but I usually record with the effect on the track, mainly because that is what I'm used to doing. On this machine, you can record either way. I have not attempted to work with this on the computer, as I have no interest in it. My other recorders are standalone, and this can be also. I am completely happy with the R24, and if someone is out there doing the same research I did, if you are on the fence, pick one of these up. I also want to give credit to topdazzle on YouTube for assisting me, and I'm sure countless others, with the features that this little machine has and actually explaining and showing how to use them.

  • Perhaps the best home recording unit...

Like most budget end multi-track recorders Zoom has its drawbacks but depending on the equipment used to input the sound and the DAW program you use to mix, some excellent results can be achieved. If you don't have a DAW program a Cubase Lite is included and you can also go online to download a full version of the program. A 5-star purchase as far as I'm concerned.

  • Great deal, lower price than competitors and more functions.

I find the Zoom R24 way better than it's competitors, a bit lower price and a lot more functions. This is a very complete device it offers a drum machine, you can also create your own grooves, as well as hundreds of patches for guitar, bass, voice, which you can also use with a microphone for a trumpet, saxophone and many other instruments.

  • Ótimo Produto

Adorei o produto. Att,

  • A pro level fav with user friendly functionality

Purchased for a sight impaired musician associate. He is familiar with the Zoom 24, and says that the machine is working very well in all aspects. He says: all of the op amps and mics are performing as expected, and the track controls as well. It is being used on a recording project by a veteran pro (with deep multi-track production experience). He is already moving forward with sessions - so these comments are as credible and positive as you’ll likely find. Coincidentally this multi-tracker was also recommended to me by another pro player! Since the two musicians mentioned do not know each other, this particular Zoom model seems to be a ‘go to’ choice among the more serious artists out there.

  • Simplicity

Thr R24 is so easy to use, it really is a pleasure. It does all I need it to do and then some. I find it to be much less complicated than the tablet app I was using and allows me to get ideas down quickly and refine them from there.

  • I've only spent a little time with the R24, but I'm already getting a feel for it's abilities and constraints. The major downfall is it's mic preamps.

When recording a vocal, even with a condenser mic, you have to turn the gain to almost five o'clock to get any real sense of presence and depth. There's also quite a bit of harshness and hiss that comes with this. My engineer friend and I are experimenting with going for lower gain, and boosting this once it's in a DAW. Still, this is a major drawback of the R24.

  • Very useful machine

Very useful machine. Recorded and published three tracks within a month of opening the box. Watched a series of YouTube videos by Topdazzle to get to know my way around the machine. Some limitations in design regarding use of effects. Still need to get to grips with use of sampler and loop. Thoroughly recommended
