Great for photos, No-so for video
Great photo camera. A lot of controllable settings. Good quality. Video camera: Not so great. 1080p in VR looks like Standard Def. There are no manual settings. Easy to use and reliable, but the image quality is... medium
Theta S is very easy tu use, small, ergonomic 360 camera. You do not need to be a specialist, after you understand the basics you're able to shoot whatever you want. The app that u're using to edit the movies after are also easy to use, and then you can publish very easily on Facebook or Youtube. The bad thing is that the image quality is not so good. After you edit and upload it, the image is missing sharf, it's somehow a bit blurry and pixelate. Of course, I'm using it, my viewers are happy to see what I shoot in 360, but I know the image could be better. The most difficult part of enjoying this product is accepting that it WORKS! In a snap it takes a complete 360 degree photo, or movie. Up, down, left, right, back and front. Amazing. The pictures are not as sharp as a nice camera, but they are very good. It is fun. Looking at pictures requires a little planning, i.e. through their app on your phone is easy, on Facebook, etc. But on a phone without their app the picture is not a virtual 360. I guess the biggest issue is the time required to upload pictures from the camera to your phone over wifi. It's not bad but it is a step and takes some time. Nice camera that gets cool 360 stills, video and time lapse. But RICOH does not support anymore with updates. Takes a little time to learn how to use (with the THEAT app), and edit (in the THETA+ app). Ricoh Theta S is Awesome!
No, it's not the highest resolution photosphere camera out there, but it IS the easiest to use and produces images that are more than satisfactory for viewing on any tablet or smartphone and most laptops or desktops. I am primarily using it to produce virtual tours for real estate offerings. I have also found other interesting applications at public events, sailing on the Chesapeake bay, and many more. I'M a realtor that was looking to do true virtual tours quickly. I'll be using this to replace my DSLR spherical rig. While the pictures are lower quality than the pro style setup I was using, I can get all the pictures done in 1/4 the time. Defective within first use
