The Dreamcast is still an awful lot of fun

This console has aged great. I output to an HDMI tv through an Akura VGA-HDMI converter, and this beats expectations. This console is from an era when controls really started to make sense, and physics engines got good enough that racing games and flying games became much more fun. For a console that was only truly supported for a few years in North America, this is a bit of a hidden gem. The games library is heavy on arcade ports (Crazy Taxi), with some off-beat racing games (Tokyo Xtreme Racer) and some classic sports games (NFL Blitz, NHL 2K). If you're getting into retro gaming, a Dreamcast can be a lot of fun.

    • The best console ever!

The Sega Dreamcast launched in 1999 and it was the first console to ever have built-in internet. You can still go online with this console today! But you need something called a dream pi. This allows you to use your wifi network and daisy chain the connection to a Sega Dreamcast. They also still make new games for this console. In order to save your progress, you need something called a VMU (Visual Memory Unit) which is a memory card with a little screen on it. This can display images and the logos of the game or even small animations. You have the option to buy genuine copies of games or to burn them on a cd yourself. Just a notice, burning games will reduce the life of the Dreamcast's laser mechanism. This console has tons of great games. I hope you find this review helpful. If it did ...

    • Sega Dreamcast is the most underrated console ever!

I absolutely enjoy the Sega Dreamcast! If you’re going for a full collection for U.S games it is partially easy to collect for since only 240+ games were ever released in North America. Many of them are good games like Power Stone, Crazy Taxi, Legacy of Kain, Shenmue, etc. It is such a fun console to play and it was ahead of its time. Even smaller aspects like their memory cards are awesome. You can use the memory cards to play small mini games or it could do other cool things depending on the games. It is my favorite console and I’d give it a 9.8/10.

    • Dreamcast is a tragic end of an era for Sega fans, but it remains an incredible system that should have been more popular and was ahead of its time.

Dreamcast is Sega's swan song. It is a truly tragic story with a heartbreaking end for Sega fans. When Dreamcast was cancelled, I never bought another video game console. Without Sega hardware, I simply was not interested. Sega was always an innovative game developer, pushing the boundaries with their hardware. Although many critics mocked them, the truth is that Sega's consoles were always ahead of their time. Such is the case with Dreamcast. The first console to feature online gaming. Virtual memory cards. Enhanced 128-bit graphics. Dreamcast specialized in action-packed arcade style games. The console should have been successful and put Sega back on top. Sadly, this was not the case. It was discontinued way too quickly. Hence, Dreamcast is a tragic story. We are left to wonder "what ...

    • An Overlooked Console With Many Overlooked Games

The Dreamcast was very much an over looked console back in the day. Even now the games are great, the controls, while they don't have the second Right Analog of most games, are simple and relatively easy and the memory cards are actually rather innovative and easy to use. The only downside about it, like a large portion of any tech, is that the CMOS battery of the unit will need to be replaced if you're looking to buy one. Unfortunately, this is not as easy for the Dreamcast, as they C-cell battery inside the console is affixed to the parts that attach it to the board. Luckily, with a little soldering and a quick purchase of a cheap C-Cell battery slot from Amazon (I had bought a pack of 8 for 5 bucks, but there are cheaper), you can fix this really simply. The biggest worry you'll have ...
