Finally, a good, easy to use and user friendly FM radio player!

I've used a Creative Zen, and another type of Zen player, and even a Sansa Clip Plus, and none of them worked as well as this unit. Yes, the others mentioned also have an mp3 player function, but I was looking for just a good, easy to use FM radio receiver that takes a standard AAA battery. This item fits the bill perfectly! The FM station tuning/preset functions are super easy (as opposed to the Creative Zen which is a nightmare!) The buttons are very easy to use and instant on and off...much better than the other units. I'm so sick of the "rechargeable" players constantly going dead on me all the time, right in the middle of a radio show. With this Walkman, all I have to do is stick another battery in it! Wonderful! And the battery life is good too! I'm going to order two more just in case they become unavailable later!

  • Top critical review

Reception of FM, AM and Weather Stations is Very Poor

I needed a portable radio for use in fitness centers and as I considered the various models the Sony SRF-M37W struck me as the best value. I am in a fitness center every day for a few hours, and usually in a different fitness center today than the one I was in yesterday (due to required travel). Since I purchased a Sony SRF-M37W I have attempted to use this radio in over 30 fitness centers. Mostly what I hear is static and hiss, interference (presumably from fitness machines) and distant-sounding radio stations, irrespective of the band. I read another's review of this product and offer it for your consideration: "The reception isn't great but beats any other portable am/fm offered by any other company." I don't know if the reception of the Sony SRF-M37W "beats" competitive models, but I can say that the reception that I experienced is substandard and essentially unusable in fitness centers. If we are unable to purchase a reasonably-priced portable radio that provides better reception than the Sony SRF-M37W, I recommend that we don't purchase any.

  • Fiine except for two flaws

For very light, compact design, intelligent layout of buttons, a useful lock the buttons function and unusually good sound for the price I would rate this radio excellent. It also runs very economically on a single AAA battery. However, reception is marred by marked directional sensitivity for the antenna system which sometimes causes nearby stations to overlap the tuned frequency according to which way you turn. The only other weakness is the headset which, in spite of the excellent sound, has somewhat uncomfortable earpieces. But, overall, the radio is a good value for the price.

  • Another good idea from Sony

This is a great little Walkman radio. Very small, lightweight, belt clip, really great reception. I use this primarily in conjunction with a headphone that allows hearing in a very noisy environment because I attend Miami Dolphin football games and they are broadcast on AM radio. This little radio has such great reception and sound it actually brings in the game broadcast better than the AM-FM radio built into the headphones. Extremely economical to use since it only takes one AAA radio battery and usually just one battery lasts pretty much the entire season since I only use it for home games (10). I just put the radio in my shirt or pants pocket, connect it to the headphones with a short cord and listen to the whole game. In addition the FM side brings in incredible sounding stereo music. The price even included a headset that I can use when I'm not at the game and the whole thing was in great condition. Great deal, great little radio.

  • Best small miniature radio ever produced

The Sony SRF-M37v miniature radio is an excellent radio for anyone. Despite it's small size, the sound and reception are top notch- especially the AM reception. While living in the Pacific Northwest, I was still able to pick up radio stations in Las Vegas and Los Angeles, as well as in Winnipeg Canada, thousands of miles away. White this tiny yet powerful radio does pick up TV stations, that no longer matters since the 2006 TV frequency change-over to digital, but it still does pick up NOAA Weather broadcasts, however. It's extremely well-built, as my first and 2nd Sony units lasted for almost 20 years each. It's also very compact, in using only 1 small AAA battery to power the unit, which lasts for weeks of daily usage ( I used NiMh rechargeable batteries, which has long life and since it's rechargeable, I only need one AAA battery to use for 4 years at a time. I have no idea why Sony stopped making this fantastic miniature radio, as it has been off the market for over 12 years now, and the only place to find it is here on Ebay.

  • Excellent for Preppers/Survivalists!!!

I owned one of these little radios 10 or 15 years ago when I lived in Chicago. So I knew it was a quality item. I have been wanting to buy another one for quite a while now and when I found these re-furbs on eBay I pulled out the card and ordered one! I live about 90 miles outside of Chicago now and after less than a week I have heard AM stations (at night of course) from Iowa, NYC, Atlanta, Louisville, St. Louis and 3 from Canada. This little radio has excellent reception AND REJECTION! That is, the SRF-M37W does a really good job of keeping adjoining frequencies from "walking" on your chosen station. From my bedroom I am able to gather news and info from all across the Midwest to the Eastern Seaboard and down South as far as Georgia!!! For a $22 radio???! The reason I say these are great for Preppers and Survivalists is #1- Headphones or earbuds only means no one else will hear your radio if your "bugged-out" and don't want any human contact. #2- the battery will last much longer because headphones/earbuds use much less power than a speaker. Another thing I REALLY like about this little radio is the AM is mono only, so you hear the sound in both ears even if you're using stereo headphones/earbuds! (FM, is stereo) I have never bought re-furbed electronics before, so I only bought one to check it out- it looks essentially brand new. It works fine, I believe it has some kind of warranty and if I lose or break it...no big deal. I plan to buy at least two more of these radios- one for my bug-out bag, one to keep in my winter coat and the one I already bought I will use around the house or when I'm working. Best $22 I've spent in a long time!

  • Sony SRF-M37W/BC Walkman - worth the money

I've been using a Realistic Optimus Stereo-mate (cat# 12-147) for 25 years, but after repairing the solder joint on the headphone connection for the sixth time, I was ready for something new. The Sony SRF-M37W/BC is a great replacement even if it is considered "old". The single AAA battery life is great and the controls are functional. The FM reception is good, but not quite as good as the Optimus. With the Sony you can get into null sound position/orientation on FM stations, where that would never happen with the Optimus. The only thing I would change on the Sony is the weatherband pushbutton as I think it should be less prominent, as I don't use the weatherband often.

  • Radio Still a Winner

Despite that this radio isn't exactly a new product being compact, light weight, with good sensitivity keeps it a winner. Fairly good play time depending on the battery used. Stable synthesized digital tuning keeps on station while allowing rapid frequency or station changes. Not being super small allows for a set of conventional controls. Rugged-survives numerous drops to hard floor. I've seen M37V and M37W. Seem to be identical.

  • So tiny, yet very powerful and easy to use

I had a Sony Walkman starting in the late 1990's, which featured a radio and a cassette player. The cassette player sadly broke one morning and slowly, the rest of the mechanisms started to go with it. I was in the market for a similar player and found one very reasonably priced. Although I am giving up about one inch on each side, the best part--it still has the similar functions that I remember the older Walkman having. Plus, this newer model (actually was first manufactured in 2008) has weather radio stations--very handy no matter what season of year it is. Another nice feature, it only takes one 'AAA' size battery (it can be rechargeable for those environmentally conscious people who might be reading) instead of the older model which took two 'AA' sized batteries. My best tip--try to find a listing with headphones included. It would make things a whole lot easier in the end. Overall, nice and portable unit to have handy.

  • The power button is too easy to turn on

Evrything is good except that the power button is too easy to turn on. It will be turn on by touching other things unintendedly and it exhausts your battery. The better design may be that the power button is concave, so that to avoid the above accident happens. Thank you.
