The Liturgy of the Hours
This is an English language edition of the Liturgy from the 1970s. The rubric for following the Liturgy is somewhat complex, and requires readings from several parts of one volume on any given day. The four volumes, over 6500 pages, are designed to be read over the course of one year. In a previous generation the Liturgy was perceived more as the preserve of the clergy, whereas the laity would pray the Rosary. I purchased this set of books to accompany the Roman Breviary and Monastic Breviary, both in Latin, as part of an overall plan for long-term devotions. The volumes are finely bound in leather with gilt edged pages. This was a superb deal, the nicer version of the LoTH and breviary covers to protect them for $160? You simply cannot beat that price. The liturgy of the hours is the only mandatory form of prayer across all the religious and clerical vocations, and is highly suggested for the laity such as myself.
