About this product

Product Information

The first role-playing game on NES comes to Game Boy Color as an enhanced port along with its more expansive sequel in this single compilation cartridge. Known as Dragon Quest in Japan, the Dragon Warrior series helped introduce traditional role-playing games to a console audience. Both titles on this cartridge follow similar formats. Taking control of a nameless hero, players explore the countryside from an overhead perspective. Random battles take place at various points along the way, which automatically switches the perspective to a first-person view as the action unfolds in classic turn-based fashion. Whimsical enemies can be vanquished with a choice of conventional weapons or magic.

Dragon Warrior II offers a choice of three characters instead of one, features new buildings such as the church to revive dead party members, introduces conditions such as poison, and offers more equipment to acquire and spells to cast, increasing the latter's number from 10 to 22. The party can also explore the sea and journey to new areas in a boat. Each Dragon Warrior game features three save files as well as a temporary save that can be used if players are in a hurry to shut off the system. An estimated 40 hours of play is featured from start to finish, with cinematic cut-scenes, animated battle sequences, larger characters, and more detailed backgrounds breathing new life into the classic series.

2 Classic RPGs in a portable format

The first two Dragon Quest (Warrior) games from the NES ported to a black cart GBC format, meaning it plays in color on a GBC/ compatible GBA and will also play on an original black and white GameBoy. There are some improvements over the original NES versions, such as item and gold storage, and weapon and armor shops show stat changes for purchases before they are made. No big changes to the actual gameplay though, but I will say I'm finding a lot less grinding is actually required than I seem to recall.

  • For Alefgard and Erdrick/Loto, Save their kingdom in this legendary game remake that started it all in the Loto Trilogy!

It's one of the best RPGS ever created for it's time. A classic that started an entire series that's getting it's 11th main game soon. The game plays very well and I just last night beaten DWII after maxing out everyone's level grinding on Metal Babbles or Metabbles/Liquid Metl Slimes as they're known by now. They are bit difficulty at times mostly near the end as you have to grind to be able to survive but really what RPG isn't at times?

  • GREAT Old school rpg

This Game is what help Final Fantasy get started as the first role player game. With likes of Wizardry. Much faster to play this on the Gameboy than the old Nintendo. Give it a try.
