Metal Zone + Fromel Kit and yes!
Listen, this pedal is AWFUL and terrible and sounds screechy and bad! It was great when you didn't know any better back in 1993 but now we have TONS of amazing options. Two of my all time favorite pedals are my TC Electronic Booster, Linedriver, Distortion and my Mesa Throttle Box EQ. Those are incredible pedals! My TC/E BLD was $425 and my Mesa was $300. Expensive. I bought this one in virtually brand new condition for $30 BUT what MADE this pedal one of my faves was adding the Fromel kit. OH.... EM.... GEE...!!! This pedal can make your amp sound like a Mesa Boogie Rectifier...!! It's insane BUT it'll take you 5 hours to quietly and calmly swap out all the diodes BUT WORTH IT. So no, this pedal is awful BUT if you mod it, it'll be AMAZING...!! I have the Fromel mod that I installed personally! Worth it...!!! Get this amazingly terrible pedal and get it modded...!!!! Good sound
Well, when i plugged it in, i thought the the thing didn't work. Turned up the gain on the pedal all the way and had the amp low. It makes a weird noise coming out of my Fender amp. But, when i bring up the guitar volume, it sounds really nice. Not just for "Metal"!
Don't let the name fool you. I've used this through tons of amps since the 90s. Which just recently broke, hence buying this one because it is a valuable tool for my Work. Currently using with my 1963 Silvertone 1482 combo and it makes this amp sing. Also use with my 5150 block head with a boost after it. Totally killer. Can be used in effects loop as preamp distortion as well. Using you volume knob on your guitar can give you amazing tonal options for different genres. After my first Boss Metal Zone pedal broke, I went back to the overdrive on my Fender and Crate guitar amps, and and also tried my Boss Super Overdrive pedal again. None of them came close to the gnarly distortion that the Metal Zone provided...so I bought another! I love my Metal Zone!
Level: where ever needed Low: best at 3pm Hi: best at 7pm Mid: best at 7pm to 12pm Freq: best at 9pm Dist: best at 2pm I run this into an old 31 Band EQ to boost good frequencies and cut bad ones, then run that into my Ampeg V4 Guitar HD where the settings are set to taste. This woke up the boss Metal Zone. Sounds excellent for sludge metal.

BETTER SOUND
I liked the MT-2 as it was but it was a little raspy and a little out of control. This solved that nicely, with closer tolerances on the parts it smoothed it out well. A little more info on electrolytic caps would be nice with which lead goes where for newbies at DIY for pedals but I have enough electronics background so it wasn't a problem for me. If you're new at this sort of thing then replace one part at a time so you can get the electrolytic caps installed with the polarity correct the first time. Versatile, powerful distortion!
Shipped fast, well packed. Pedal looks pristine. The sound is powerful, cutting distortion. The volume is high, I kept it a 10 o clock to stay slightly higher than clean. Ignore the name, this pedal is useful for all genres. There are knobs for low, low midrange, high midrange, and treble so you can carve your ideal distortion for any purpose. You can highly adjust the sound from a scooped heavy metal buzzsaw, or crank up the midrange to get a nice Marshall sound. With the distortion at 12 o clock you get a heavy chunk, and a little further for huge sustain for solos. If you turn it down below 9 o clock you can use it for a lighter crunch or just a little heat for a boost like a solo if you move the level up. It's built like a tank and could survive most conceivable damage, I wouldn't be surprised if you could run a car over it. Great prices on the secondary market, and an all-in-one distortion to fit your needs. Boss MT-2 Analog.Man
This is the first pedal that I’ve owned that has been Modified by ANALOG.MAN and it is excellent. I love it -first thing I did was put it up beside a stock boss metal zone and the analog man ProMod is above comparison it’s extraordinary. hearing is believing you have to hear this pedal in person to understand what I’m talking about. The only thing better than a boss metal zone is a ANALOG.MAN boss metal zone -JGH
