  • Time develops trust. Trust lasts a lifetime. I expect no less from these.

This is a brand new purchase for me. Used but brand new never used condition. There is no plier slide wear! I have an original "Multi-Lock" with Simonds file that I bought in college and carried it at my side daily. I worked in landscaping and I used it daily. 21 years later...I still have it...minimal rust/wear, but it is solid. I did snap the small flathead attempting to pull an old brass sprinkler head screw (should not have attempted and learned my lesson). The new "MP 600" is black oxide (not that the powdered stainless is shiny or reflective), but the black does not flash if that's a requirement. Love the replaceable cutter addition, especially if you are going to make regular use of it. I carried my original on my hip whenever I went fishing and it handled line and lead with ease. -- That should also attest to corrosion resistance. I would salt water fish around 6-10 times a year and fresh water fish equally in the fall winter. These are a little heavy and not pocket friendly IMHO, but belt application is preferred as my hands can find, un-holster, and access with ease. It is slightly heavy and takes some adjustment. on the fastened belt it is secure, but you will know its presence when it's time to unfasten (relief breaks, retiring for the day, etc). I can only compare it to my e-z out jr., which is not a weight comparison, so I can't make a qualified opinion between similar tools. I cannot qualify field use on the current MP 600 (I just took ownership), but my initial impression is that it is robust and durable. It is exactly the same as the original (with the exception of the removable plier cutters). Take that as you will, but for me, it means it wasn't broken so it wasn't in need of being fixed. It also means the same design and assembly has been repeated and repeated and repeated. Time will tell if the materials have diminished in quality, but from initial impressions they have not. With respect to loose tolerances, "bend but don't break." My original did plenty of bending, so I have expectations of the same. If I have a solid pliers, I will use it, if I don't I will use my Gerber because it will be by my side; if I have a full tang, I will use it, if I don't I will use my Gerber because it will be by my side. Again, take that for what it's worth...hopefully it's worth more then what I paid for these minus what what was paid for any other tool in your pocket. Not knocking any other tools, I'm just reflecting that a tool has a task and it if succeeds in that task: it is capable. If it excels at that task then it stays with you for a lifetime. If these fall apart on me with mild use, it is not capable. I will change my review, but until then it stands as my opinion that this is a solid tool that fits its designed purpose. Have on you, so that when you are in a pinch, you can get out of it...and yes, I plan to know that it can get me out of that fine mess long before I get myself into that fine mess. Because of that dogma, it is at least worthy of my time to put it through its paces. Hope that helps.

  • Better than Leatherman and better price

Very good quality at a good price. Used Leatherman since they came out but find the Gerber as good or better with locking feature at a much better price.
